14.5°C - sunny spells and showers. 5.2mm falling today.

There was a cracking lightning display with deep rumbles around 4 or 5am this morning.

Crack of thunder! :D

There's either been an accident or a lightning strike, sirens going off and air ambulance has been circling.

67mm/hr rain rate with hail in that downpour.

That was a helluva storm earlier. 2 close rumbles and then a bright overhead flash with almost instant crashing thunder that shook the house, massive downpour with 1cm hail that give 6mm in about 5 minutes. 141mm this month now, looking at the models it could be a 300mm'er like last October.

Only 95.7mm here, good possibilities it will reach 200mm though.

Well this spell has finally delivered here. Squall line just moved through here with another defined gust front and sudden onset of torrential rain and strong winds, no hail though. Mustn't forget the few booms of thunder to the northwest as it moved in.

Sunny again now and the temperature has dropped from 15.4C to 11.5C. Will upload pictures later.

Afternoon everyone.

We have been quite lucky avoiding the showers over the last few days but there have been occasions where there has been the odd shower.

But just had a heavy almost torrential shower lasting 15mins passing through and clearing to are east now no hail or thunder winds did pick up quite a bit as well, it's a lot clearer now behind the showers.

Thanks :)

My post from the Storms and Convective Discussion.

Here are some piccies from today. Most of today was sunny but an organisation of cells moved through mid-afternoon and these were taken between 13:30 and 15:30. Although I didn't see any lightning, there were quite a few booms of thunder as it moved in. It also looked like a funnel cloud was forming as pictured but as quickly as it showed up, it disappeared again. The rain was very intense for 5-10 minutes, even violent with trees bent over and throwing off leaves but the whole cell moved through within half an hour and the sun shone for the rest of the day after that.  :)

Very similar to yesterday morning with sunshine and clear sky overhead but a large and extensive bank of fog, just 200m distant and 50m lower down, is creeping ever closer and higher.

Foggy here too. Was hoping for a frost, but only made it down to 0.2C, so a near miss. After midnight, the temperature was continuously below 2C, so still chilly.

Not much to see on the webcam today unless you like extensive mist and fog. Just 4.6C currently with no wind.

Here in central Solihull, recorded a minimum of 1.0C at 7:15. So no air frost, but cars are covered in ice.

It is now at 4.5C with no wind, but the mist as gathering and gradually the sun seems to be being shrouded.

Does anyone know why mist/fog seems to develop after the temps are rising?

Makes a change Telford not being shrouded in thick fog in a setup like this! although a lot of low cloud now piling in from the South East/East.

Overnight low of 1.2c so coldest of the Autumn to date, no frost though.

Sunny all morning here with the fog getting to within 100m of the house at one point before retreating again. There's still a large  bank of thick fog about 500 m away which keeps advancing and retreating.

No fog here today, overcast and cold though.

Currently 8.8°C

I'm surprised no warnings have been issued, rainfall totals from various models look high.
