Might fire up the log burner tonight if clear! What a change from 2/3 weeks ago when couldn't sleep because of the heat.

Certainly does feel rather different to earlier this summer! even felt a bit chilly indoors this morning due to being used to it being almost too warm in here.

Low of 7.3C last night, by no means the lowest I've recorded in August but pretty despicable for just outside the warmest part of the year. At least it's sunny this morning though - just need to get rid of that wretched breeze!

Too much cloud last night so the min was 6.6c before midnight and not unusual for August.

Same here, we got down to 5.8C just after midnight, then it clouded over and that was it. Rather disappointed.

Me too had hopes of a 2c had it been clear and calm.

So far this week there has been 1mm or 1.5mm of rain each day as a result of the brief Cold Front on Sunday then a few short sharp showers Monday and yesterday afternoons. Today may do likewise if showers develop to the W/NW soon but at present it's the sunniest early afternoon since Saturday.

Aye saw that streamer over you virtually all day yesterday, would of dumped a good few inches of snow in January!!

Opposite way round here though, yesterday afternoon in spite of 16c max had good sunny spells, very little sun today and frequent light showers, 13.3c now brr!

Should be better tomorrow hopefully as temporary westerly wind before Cheshire Gap effect returns Fri/Sat.

In terms of these Cheshire Gap setups, I can kind of imagine how happy some of those in the North-Western areas of the Midlands would be if the location of South-Eastern Midlands could be swapped over with the location of North-Western Midlands. Telford and Stafford would then be getting less rain, while Coventry/Solihull/Birmingham etc would be getting more. But then in Winter, Coventry/Solihull/Birmingham would be getting the bigger dumplings of snow (providing it's cold enough off course), while Telford and Stafford would probably be getting much less snow. (Mwhe he he he hee...)

Yep! Am glad to say I haven't had to send anyone on here to the naughty corner... yet! :p

Surprisingly isn't as chilly as I thought at the moment with the temperature around 13*C, though there is a bit of cloud around.

The skies are raided with of lot of the white stuff this morning. Very clam with hardly any wind. The temperature is around 8*C (but it honestly feels more like 10 or 11*C).

Summer really needs to stop hiding behind 'Autumn' really (especially if this cool weather is not your thing). Apart from that, I would actually say August has been a fairly reasonable month so far, but does clearly depend where you are.

A low of 3.7C last night, pretty chilly. At least the grass won't have grown. The grass has really slowed down the last couple of weeks, but still as green as ever.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
