Back in Cornwall now and oddly it was here which is where the sun has been out! Lovely and warm up to 22c too. :D Not often its cloudy everywhere but only Cornwall in the sunshine! Usually the other way round!

Anticyclonic gloom doesn't float my boat I'm afraid. I much preferred last September which was a lot more mobile and varied. I can't actually remember the last time I saw truly blue sky.

But you said no weather! It has been one of the warmest, sunniest Septembers on record here in West Wales, some spots like here have had no rain at all, we have only had one month in the historical record to end up on zero that of Febriary 1986, that to me is a most interesting months weather, as plenty of weather types/ events 'float my boat' :)

Just looked back at last September it was average in all respects except for being quite dull here!

Mostly dry and fairly warm this week:

I do feel that the perceived lack of sunshine is exaggerated for effect on here sometimes..you should experience a truly dull month with less than 20 hours..

It looks quite promising here this week, perhaps a bit more cloud around midweek >

I need to get out fishing but breezy conditions may hamper that.  :unsure2:

Each to their own I guess. I will say that had these synoptics happened in August, continuing from July, an exceptional month for sunshine and heat would have occurred. Unfortunately though, the effect of such synoptics are halved in September, especially after a European cooldown during the second half of August. This September has been a very homogenous month with unexceptional warmth and unexceptional coolness.

1) No maximum of 29C like last year, no minimum of 18C like 2006, no low maximum of 10C like 2012 and no minimum of 3C like 2010.

2) Only 3 completely sunny days. There have been sunny intervals throughout the month but accompanied by plenty of cloud and/or thick haze

3) No early September heat i.e. 26C+

4) No days of sunshine and showers with bright convective skies a la 2013, 2011, 2010 etc

5) No lovely fresh days until today

I will however merit this month on Thursday night's thunderstorms which were fantastic and undoubtedly equalled the displays in July.

So I appreciate that you have enjoyed this month to which I am very glad. I, however, have found it quite trying. September will go down as being exceptionally dry but nothing special where sunshine is concerned. To me that's no different from having an exceptionally dry winter month with persistent leaden skies and temperatures between 5-8C.

Meh, at least we had the sunny morning, grey skies returned now, cloud gradually increased from 10% at 11:30 to about 99% coverage by 1pm and down to 15.6c now.

What's with all this stratocumulus bubbling up then spreading out so much like it's high Summer?? normally something that stops after end of August but constantly happening this month, don't get it.

It's already the third foggiest September on record here ( 37 years ) with 83.5 hrs of fog so far. Only 1995 with 102 hrs and 1989 with 136.5 hrs have been foggier.

The 37 year average for September is 42 hours.

Blame the cooler air masses over the warm sea.

Meanwhile after a grey and gloomy start here it turned into a wonderful afternoon here in the far South West with wall to wall warm sunshine and a nice sunset. Clear blue skies expected tomorrow too. :)

Mornin' all, currently 4.0 °C in the southern Dorsetshire domain. Criss cross action in the skies this morning, clearly identifying the season's changing, nice...
