Some big rainfall totals already, 25mm at Coventry just to 10am:

http://bws.users.netlink.co.uk/rollingstatistics.htm

The Tewkesbury turners? Storms take a distinct right turn here before heading towards Warwick, Leamington, Coventry then E Mids, Lincoln area :)Anywhere north and west, moderate occ heavy rain. Could get windy too.

Who holds the copyright on that me or you

Yellow warning for strong winds issued

Issued at: 1051 on Sun 10 Aug 2014

Valid from: 1100 on Sun 10 Aug 2014

Valid to: 2000 on Sun 10 Aug 2014

Winds have already picked up across Cornwall, and a swathe of strengthening westerly winds will extend its way northeastwards across many other central and southern parts of England and Wales through today. Gusts of 40-50 mph are possible inland, perhaps as high as 60 mph in some exposed coastal locations. The public should be aware of the potential for some minor disruption and difficult driving conditions given the unseasonably strong winds. Wind speeds will tend to moderate from the southwest later this afternoon and evening.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A deepening area of low pressure will track northeastwards across England and Wales today, with strong winds developing on its southern flank. Coastal areas will tend to be windiest but some strong gusts are also likely inland, especially in association with showers.

Steady rain, heavy at times, for the last couple of hours. Temp is still quite warm and has been going up a bit of late, now 14.9°C. Wasn't really expecting much but have been surprised with the action down South.

Trying to work out where the triple point is from the NW radar. Not easy I have to say!

Very heavy and torrential rain here in Bridlington. Hoping for a thunderstorm as will have a perfect view where we are sat in the very leaky pavilion bar.

Meto visible for 12 o'clock has a very interesting shape to the south of the general cloud mass? Just east of bristol it tapers to a point with a very straight edge running from it to the north? I guess the sun to the west of it is impacting the cloud/rain?

EDIT: Just waiting for radar to show a 'hook' form at that sharp end!!!

It's absolutely mental out there! Wind gusts in places reaching 40 mph up here, quite a lot of debris (twigs, limbs) have come down off the trees but nothing much else yet.

So far just a mere twitch as far as weather events here. Got a long way to go before getting into the top 13 rain events. http://www.sheffieldweather.co.uk/Averages/Heaviest_Rainfall_From_1989.pdf

18mm so far trying hard looks like rainfall intensifying once more. I think it all depends if we tap into the remains of the early storms over south Wales earlier.

Waiting for the wind to pick up very quiet here.

I think we're all waiting for the sun to pep things up as the central mass of air ( south of the current low centre?) starts to throw up storms? That area of storm that I pointed out also seem to be in an area of rotation from the low centre??? Looks bound for Oxford? Any reports of the storms embedded in the end of that wedge?

Well that was fun for 20 minutes. Biblical rainfall and constant thunder and lightning. Now drifting off to the south east looking at it

Something appears to be developing over Hornsea way over the last few frames on NW radar. This is in an interesting location in respect of the overall shape of the rain bands across the country....

Edit: heading directly for Brid....

There shouldn't be any need for the sun to kick things off today.

The second low is forming in the Irish Sea. This could be very interesting for more northern areas later!

We've had gusts of near 50mph in Exeter but not really much rain....

As almost always convection seems to be towards the south east

Definately a storm embedded in the wedge. Just passed over us and was fantastic.

Ahh, June 2007, what a month that was!

Still raining here, not a breath of wind though

Looks like the wind is picking up around the east coast now

We have that too, beautiful sunny day after a bit of fun with the storms earlier. Winds have eased too.

It missed here. A bit of light rain this morning, other than that, breezy but not a day to write off.
