Had to check the latest charts before going to bed. If the residual cloud left over from last night clears, allowing the sun through for any length of time then temperatures will rocket and there could be some severe home grown thunderstorms this afternoon. This is not counting anything that could move up from France.

Currently 18c with a dewpoint of 17c. Not bad for not even 7 in the morning :)

Been following this most of today and admiring all of your commitment in staying awake!  6pm here now, and I'm in for an evening of more and more storm (report) watching.  Your photos and videos have been epic, even before the main event - bravo!

After this mornings single but impressive storm we've now got moderate rain.

Looking at the radar, much of the activity at the moment is just to the east of here on the other side of the Pennines although hopefully the large area of rain heading up from the midlands will give us something in the next couple of hours.

Nothing here as expected. Just catching the rain from the western section of the front on the edge of the gap.

A very active cell has sprung up just off the North East coast in the last hour or so

and could clip into Eastern Scotland.

Still waiting for round 1 here.

A brief storm moving north, about 10 miles of east of here, gave a few lighning flashes and some rumbles of thunder about half an hour after midnight but apart from that it's just been warm and humid with light-moderate rain.

You would have had some amaNung lightning to you west around 3:30-4am this morning, had a beautiful storm here which then transferred to the Pennines. Had amazing lightning in it. Edited by Darren Bown

Hmm, lot of detritus to get rid of this morning, with more thundery rain spreading up from France. Difficult to do a forecast for today given the blanket of mid-level cloud and rain lingering, because if it does break to allow sunshine, temperatures will rocket and the humid airmass will become very unstable across SE, central and E England ahead of the cold front moving in across western areas. GFS shows insane amounts of energy 1500 j/kg+ this afternoon. Vertical shear will be sufficiently strong for supercells producing large hail, damaging wind gusts and also a risk of a tornado:

However, worried that this cloud cover may take to long to clear to allow this kind of instability and thus potential for severe storms to be realised. We will see ...

Just had an almighty shotgun thunder here in Stoke. It was very random...nothing else before or since and no rain. Was just about to go to sleep too.

Yes, still VERY Muggy.

Brightening quite quickly now, we need that sun to break through to be in with a chance of homegrowns.
