Still dry here in Darlington very cloudy and the radar is showing some rain moving to us very slowly not expecting it to be thundery as we haven't got the heat and humidity like the south

EDIT

Here comes the rain

Thunderstorms off and on several times through the night but what I've just had now was insane.. It was mainly the rain, biblical! 14.2mm fell in 9 minutes, flooding everywhere.

We need this to sod off fast. Get some sunlight beaming down. Unfortunately, going by the radar, there is plenty more drizzle where that came from!

Storm number 3 for Saturday breaking out to the east here. Faint rumbles heard.

Cant believe I've witnessed 4 storms in this period. Been the best stormy period I've witnessed since 2007.

Not a sausage up here just a bit of drizzle and tonnes of cloud. Not disappointed as I wasn't expecting anything anyway. This was always an event for the south.

It was a very busy night here. Have had about 4 and a half hours of thunderstorms since midnight. Not had much sleep!

Storm ongoing now. Been rumbling away for an hour and ten minutes. Quite high based thunder, occasional lightning.

Didn't match the previous night for intensity but still impressive.

Woken up in the early hours with thunder and torrential rain. Ended up watching it on the sea front as it rolled over to the west

Today is going to be hard to call, depending on where and when the cloud breaks to warm things up

Just had the closest lightning bolt I have experienced! I thought it had calmed down a bit then out of nowhere an extemely close strike. Just saw the flash and instant boom.

I'm sure they'll be more to come. I've done a bit maths with the data I have, from each rain duration, 27mm has fallen in around 35 minutes. My pond was low yesterday, It has now flooded.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
