Not sure where you are mate, but wonder if we will be able to see any distant lighting up by looking into the skies towards J29/Mansfield way from here in the next half hour?

Still in Chez atm, heading out right now though, up towards ashover to catch some distant flashes and then hopefully a nice storm! Fingers crossed

Well, think I'm gonna grab a couple beers, put on some 90s country, sit back and see how tonight pans out!!!!

Raining and distant thunder in Basingstoke. No lightning seen but the air is thicker than the cast of 'Geordie Shore' wading through treacle. Here we go.

Ramping up in Kettering (NE of Northampton) now. Moderate precipitation, plenty of CC, and progressively louder booms of thunder. Last night's storm lost its organisation over the Midlands, so thankfully this line of cells seem to be making amends by developing on approach.

We can see lots o lightning across towards the east mids if we stand upstairs. Really wonderful to watch it flashing in the distance.

Plenty of very heavy/torrential downpours heading toward Bristol.. if they keep on intensifying it may be your lucky night.. Bristolians ! :D

Well, things seem to go bang when they cross the Bristol Channel :) So yes certainly.. and the Welsh mountains probably torment the storms haha. I could see distant lightning last night over the mountains towards the Welsh/English border :)

Big drops of rain here, seems to be developing fast over head. Fingers crossed it develops further.

First strike of the night in Portsmouth right now

We just had some rain, the big drop variety, a good sign.

The good stuff is just over Brittany at the moment and intensifying as it moves North I think.

Looking at the cloud on the infra red sat the rain and Portsmouths thunder storm are on the leading edge of the Brittany system I referred to at the beginning.

I think this system will be here properly in the early hours and go on through to dinner time, a long one to watch, thank god its weekend.....

Those newly firing storms over N France are exceptionally active

Not too much has happened in the last twenty minutes, except for a strike near Portsmouth and a few more strikes in the Northampton storms.

Storms to the north of milton keynes are still very active, I can see the lightning from almost 60 miles away now. The real time plotter is not recording the strikes probably due to the high altitude?

Wow. I have just spent the last 5+ hours of my Friday night staring at this forum and the lightning detector. What am I doing with my life? Hahaha

Your not the only one, whether I get a thunderstorm tonight will decide whether this is a waste of my life or not
