take video then. You can look back through and then capture the frames that have the lightning on. That's how I get mine, without having all the fancy equipment  :-)

How do you capture frames?

gfs18z rolling out, unbelievable amount of CAPE at midnight for northern england.

Just maybe the storms will have enough energy to keep going over northern england and not die a death like they normally do!!

looking ahead to sunday, 18z is an upgrade for CAPE!

Can any well-versed meterologist explain what this interesting 'hook' feature developing to the NW of the main cell is, and how it seems to be almost sucking energy from the core?

Settling in for some very remote storm watching with you guys, can't miss hearing about a real overnight import...and never mind tomorrow!

Well I think it's game over for westerners!

Are you joking? Lol. Hasn't even started yet as far as we are concerned.

Met radar and beeb showed storms moving up central by this time. Instead it clobbered south east and more east Kent. Why did they not see this when us on netweather did oh and estofex!

I better get some of this tomorrow because its looking utterly stunning!!! Us from Cambria northwards seem to get the leftovers from down south or just get a damp squib, really, really hoping for something, something BIG!!

Models really haven't been handling to well the storms earlier today and this evening too. 12z GFS and EC didn't pick up the MCS, which developed west of Paris then moved NNE across Sussex, Kent and now Essex.

Hard to say, therefore, exactly what will happen for the rest of the night, suffice to say nocuturnal cooling above the plume will allow further elevated storms to develop across S England and into the Midlands, plus more storms to move north from western France towards CS and SE England in the early hours.

I take it that this big MCS(1) may prevent (2) or any further action tonight? Or limit it's potential, or do MCS not work like that? Interesting that MCS(2) will likely go over London.

My oh My, there is now lightning coming from every direction, in the distance but there must be cell exploding into life all over the place. Can hear the rumbles and booms and see the lightning in every direction from Campbell Park.

Not sure what your phone you have Lauren, but someone posted last night a Android App called Lightning Camera, and I am assuming it is also iphone

It shows frame by frame shots. Have a look and test it. It has high ratings

Hopefully I can test it tonight :whistling:

that should change Paul, as steering winds shift more northerly and north westerly over the next few hours.......at least according to the latest modelling....time will tell I guess

Whoever gets them ENJOY but don't risk your life for a video or photo....

might pop out for a spot of lightning spotting as elevated convection is breaking out to the west of Salisbury heading due north towards me....will be interesting to see if this convection becomes electrified shortly

Wonderful, sat West of Northampton on an elevated canal bank with a glass of vino watching 4 cells get going and spark....

They are mainly separate systems, but there are occasional sparks in between high up.

Would we be able to see this from Bristol AJ?

I think there's a bigger enough gap between the first MCS and 2nd MCS over western France for there not to be a limiting factor on the 2nd. There'll be a lull behind the first, though the outflow ahead of the first will help cells develop further north, as we've seen over the SE Midlands recently.

2nd MCS likely to track north further west as steering flow backs more SE'erly, so central S England and Mids perhaps more in the firing line, but also western parts of the southeast/Home Counties.

I presume it's surface based but I'm not sure? If they develop then they will be mighty just going to wait and see, quite a tasty storm now near Le Mans too!

Drove down earlier and got myself a great spot close to market harborough le16. Plenty of lightning, mostly ic and crawlers every 5-10 secs.

Glad I travelled!
