I don't have a good view from where I live, being in the city and surrounded by houses etc. I am heading out now for some better viewpoints and to put myself into the path of these things.

Its every 5 seconds almost the rate of striking I'm seeing, and its gradually getting brighter too!

Wow! Heard the thunder a fair distance away, nodded off and was woken by very near lightning and thunder that seemed to rip the sky and shake the flat! tried to find camera but as soon as I turned the light on, the lights dipped. Watched the lightning streak across the sky.

It's like the storms I remember when I was a kid in the 80s!

Got two small video clips on my Olympus camera, don't know how they'll turn out but here's hoping they're decent. July 17-18 has to be the BEST thunderstorm I've ever witnessed. Lightning here literally every second, this has been amazing.

Pic of 2014 for me might not of hit my area that much but it's just the best thing I have seen this year! (So far?)

Will update as and when so if there is no strikes on the map sorry about that!

Looks to be moving NE rather than the predicted NW path. The western edge of the line is dying on the latest radar runs and so the best of this will probably be to my east, and too far to realistically chase. I have my fingers crossed for some intensification on its more western side.

Wind is picking up here gradually, still a mild night considering it's past 2.30am and the storms are just coming into the Midlands.

All I can say is wow, was woken up by torrential rain and severe thunderstorm. I don't honestly think I've see so much Lightning ever or as frequent!!

Quite surreal now, moon starting to show and distant forks/flashes and all burglar alarms now silent after power cuts.

Hearing distant rumbles behind me, towards the South

wind really picking up

can see a very defined wall cloud and near constant thunder now

The leading edge looks like something from the US plains! Very defined!

Frequent thunder and lightning here - lightning flashing 6-8 times a minute with thunder getting louder. Rain just started too :yahoo: (and eased as I write)

Quite sure this extensive thundery activity was not scripted??

Just had an almighty crack of thunder!

Pretty decent storm in NW London, lots of lightning, heavy rain, strong winds and of course, thunder!

Getting eerily closer now with more defined bright flashes at some rate too! Incredible!

Quite a few active cells in London at the moment. One near Heathrow and one SW of my location.

Just awoken to booming distance thunder.
