Are the current breezy conditions a sign of the low pressure system on its way or just coincidence?

From a friend today!

That is surely a terrible fake!

And it's old as well because the old junction there off the A303 has changed considerably in recent times.

was it Le Havre that fired those torpedo's of storms at UK few weeks back.

Feels quite muggy this morning, the rain band has bogged off east, will we get any convective stuff kicking off later, especially at Leicester Speedway, Leicester  v Belle Vue this evening..... I don't like being stuck out in the middle of a Speedway track in a thundery shower......!!!!!!

Mid-levels poor today with relatively warm air aloft (around -14C at 500mb), thus very little instability.  As mentioned earlier in the thread, this changes tomorrow as low 500hPa geopotential heights and cooler air aloft (around -24C at 500mb), associated. with upper trough northwest, of the UK nudges east across the country through the day, steepening mid-level lapse rates and contributing to development of possibly several 100j/kg CAPE with surface heating under clearing skies over many parts of England/Wales.  Nothing significant anticipated, though GFS indicating possible overlap over marginal CAPE and strong flow aloft associated with upper-level jet streak across eastern England, so perhaps an enhanced risk of organised activity there, which would introduce a larger hail/isolated high wind event risk.

Been rather quiet here since that early June period of decent convective weather.  Hoping for more of the same over the coming weeks/months.

Will might be in with a chance tomorrow although DLS to organise and sustain storms seem to be lacking somewhat as it stands.

Looks like a rogue cell has developed here, sky is completely black and it's started to pour it with rain, sky looks like it could start throwing out lightning at any minute. Clouds have a weird greenish hue that normally signifies hail.

Issued by the met office!

Sunday 6th July 2014

YELLOW WARNING of RAIN

Slow moving heavy showers are expected to develop this morning across parts of northeast England, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. These will last into the afternoon, before easing later. Localised torrential downpours are possible, but as is the case with showers, not everywhere within this zone will see heavy rain.

The public should be aware of the potential for localised disruption to travel and outdoor events.

Valid from 0800 until 1600 on Sunday.

Now that's not something you see everyday, a weather warning for Lincolnshire!   Enjoy your heavy showers Lincolnshire......AGAIN!  :p :p :p

Off to RAF WADDINGTON for the airshow at the moment. Would really prefer these heavy showers not to materialise :-) if they do then at least throw in some t and l for an airshow with a difference! Perhaps a tornado would be good! I suspect though it won't be the weather kind.

I really hope I get at least a heavy downpour today if not thundery. BBC showed a line crossing right overhead on the weather forecast last night, will that materialize?

THERE IS A RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS FORECAST
Synopsis

A deep amplitude mid-upper level trough extends south across the UK and Ireland down towards Iberia on Sunday, spreading slowly east. At the surface, a slack, mostly westerly flow covers the UK, a cold front will clear SE UK this morning, with an increasingly unstable Pm airmass following behind across all areas.

... WHOLE OF THE UK and IRELAND ...

Increasingly cold mid-levels will spread from the west, as upper trough slowly advances from the west, creating increasingly steep lapse rates, as surface layers heat up in the strong July sunshine. As a result, airmass will become increasingly unstable with heavy showers and thunderstorms becoming widespread across the UK into the afternoon. Removal of higher surface moisture content of recent days by cold front exiting SE UK and cooler temperatures suggest there will be low risk of severe weather today. However, slow-moving nature of any heavy showers/storms may bring large localised rainfall totals in a short space of time, perhaps 25mm (1 inch) falling in an hour in a few spots. So there is a risk of localised flooding/surface water on roads. Storms may also be accompanied by hail and gusty winds. Any storms should fade into late evening/overnight as diurnal heating wanes.
