These last few very sunny days have really made the light noticable. Light when awake for the toilet and now light at 5pm.

Dare I say even felt the pang of spring earlier as I looked outside the window longingly.

Now light at 5.30 and a pressure build coming, feels very strange.

Today if we get some sunshine- the sun will set here at 1745hrs, so even 1800hrs it'll still be pretty light in the West. We've now got the same daylight length as 19th October

We've broken the back of it now here, so tomorrow's forecast of sun and warm temps in the teens will help enormously - especially with this lockdown.

Quite possibly, hopefully this evening was the last of the winter feeling evenings of the season, cold, wet and dark by half 6.. yes couple more weeks to go until clocks go back, but doubt we will have such a dark quick descent into dusk now until the clocks go back. It's been 4 and half very hard months..

I can’t wait for the spring to kick in properly. Much like late September is where the summer and warmer season begins to fade really quickly, late March is the reverse.

Had enough of winter, and looking forward to warmer days and hopefully some hot sunny days with some thunderstorms mixed in.

Driving home from getting a takeaway at the weekend, there was the slightest hint of light out west still at 7.30pm

We're almost there mate. It's pretty light now as it is, but in a fortnight once those clocks change then it's full steam ahead for the next 4 months. Can't wait for when we get into the 20s Celsius again.....

Yeah it’s been the longest and hardest winter of my life. It’s been pretty much cold from late November to now apart from the odd mild spell. I love seasonality and cold winters but I really can’t wait for spring warmth and sunshine now. Having said that the sun does seem stronger this afternoon than recently.

I cant understand why we have to wait until the end of March to change the clocks, should be end of Feb or 1st week of March, or better still just leave it on BST all year round.

It's an often debated subject! The main problem I think being that in the depths of winter it would stay dark in Scotland well beyond 9am if BST ran all year round. It'd suit me better too for BST to run all year, but just a pipe dream at the moment!

Equinox is on the 20th a little early this year.
I note the time between sunrise and sunset actually exceeds 12 hours here on the 18th though.
We are now at peak gain with about 4:25 more light every day - it starts to decelerate during the last week of March.

In 2 weeks time it will be light now, at half 7, big change in feel, the switch is turned on and spring blooms full steam ahead. Until then it's a case of waiting out the last dying embers of winter. Its light levels more than anything that affects the feel if things. November to me is winter for this reason, likewise March. Clocks going back to then going forward is winter, all other times summer, bonus is 5 against 7 months..late March and late October are the two pivotal points in the year when there is a major shift in the feel of things.

Even if the wisdom of BST all year round is debatable, I've never had a satisfactory explanation of why the clocks can't go forward in early March if they don't go back until the last week of October. It's the darkness of the mornings that should be the obvious decider, and by now mornings would be lighter than just before the clocks go back in October.

Cheerful soul aren't you! lol

The daylight might reduce slightly from late june, but the evenings are still light until mid august, before there's any notable change. Even then, I never feel the advance of autumn/winter until early September at earliest, and late september is when it becomes really notable.

Good afternoon @Sunny76
As I say, I try to be that little ray of sunshine. Lol

I work shifts, so I notice the difference round about the middle of July onwards. Certainly by then the darkness in a morning is motoring along, but how many folk are up and about at 04:00 in the morning.
Its also round about this time that I notice the evenings just starting to get a tad darker... But we're talking way after 22:00.

I don't work shifts, but I work 12 hour days, so i still notice how dark it still is at 5am. Since doing this current role 2 years ago, I notice how much longer we have to endure darker mornings, as we are the last ones to see darker mornings fade in April, and the first to notice the return of darker mornings from mid August.

May to July is my favourite time now, because of my security job.

Think I need to return back to a 9-5 role, as the early mornings and finishing late is a killer.

Morning everyone.

Only another five weeks before the nights start getting longer again.

… I just had the urge to share this cheerful thought of mine with you all on a Monday morning.

Maybe but ther will only be a handful of minutes difference in 8 weeks and not any real noticable difference for 10 to 12 weeks, weather dependant of course!

It doesn’t really become noticeable until mid august. And even then, the loss of daylight doesn’t really take hold properly until mid September.

The third weekend of august is usually when I start to notice the first hints of summer drawing to a close, even if the weather is still hot.
