I lived on the coast for 30 odd and years and bedford, 8 and a bit years. This year I have really noticed how much the night draws in here around 3pm in winter.Maybe because it been cloudier, but it's certainly been darker earlier.

Buy some decent curtains,it does not wake me up and have no problem when I have to go to bed early either !

I have blackout curtains. They keep most of the light out but not with blazing sunshine.

definitely noticeable now in the evenings and slightly noticeable in the mornings. Sun is above the horizon now when on the train on the way to work.

I love waking up at 4am in the summer because of the light. Its lovely knowing I still have 2 and a half hours in bed so I just roll over and go back to sleep:)

It was nice to look out of the window at 06:30 this morning and actually see it starting to get light

indeed:) now when my alarm goes off at 6.30 its not pitch black. In a few weeks time I will start to naturally wake up before my alarm

Not really till about 6pm on a sunny day when it gets properly dark now. Birds were tweeting well into the late afternoon/evening here like it had been a long warm day in late spring/summer. Beautiful to see and hear nature reawaken. :)

But still only 3 weeks till clocks go forward. Half 7 sunsets or later for 5 months thereafter.

Distinctly light at 5.40, birds singing before 6, the season of wasted daylight is upon us.... Why don't we put the clocks forward at the end of February?

I know, it's a complete waste for the majority of people who don't live in the far north of Scotland. Much more useful and pleasant to have the lengthening daylight in the evenings after getting home from work.

There's still more darkness than there is daylight at the minute here.

It's not until the 18th that the daylight surpasses with just over 12 hours of light.

Does anyone know that website where it gives you a comparison of today's sun strength vs another day in the year?

For or example it'll say: today's sun us equivalent to September 31st

You can easy work it out, same number of days from the solstice, more accurate with a calendar but roughly 3 months till june 21 so equiv to sept 21 within a day or two anyway .

Light levels are certainly more Spring like now with the much lighter evenings & lighter mornings. The depths of Winter are now gone. But the Summer solstice will soon come around in 14 weeks and then we begin the journey (albeit quite long) to the Winter one.

An absolute cracking spring day today, down to my t shirt,a far cry from yesterday with 10 layers and big wooly hat on although I think this season may have some more wintery stuff to come before real spring arrives .
