FROM THE MET

Evening/ Tonight:

Friday's showers across northern parts will ease. However further rain, turning heavy and persistent in places, will spread northeastwards into Wales and western England during the early hours, reaching northern England around dawn. Mostly dry elsewhere, but with isolated showers.

Saturday:

Heavy and persistent rain continues northwards into Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland. Turning windy along some exposed coasts. Drier in the south, although with a risk of heavy showers.

Just saw the BBC weather and there is a risk of thunder storms in London around 2 or 3 am! Not sure if they will get as far east as you though! :)

From Essex weather: "Latest model data continues to suggest thunderstorms after midnight across Essex. Intensity and distribution still uncertain."

So what is the main indicator on the models suggesting the overnight storms? Convective precip, vertical velocity, theta-e?

Don't know - they didn't say. Seems to be a lot of uncertainty about the situation still. WRF NMM shows high theta-e moving in....

An area of decent vertical velocity moving North with the trough....

Some convective precip (not as heavy as the SW):

LI of -2 to -3 and CAPE of around 500J/Kg.

It'll be interesting to see if Estofex have any thoughts about it. Nick F mentioned the possibility of multicell storms or MCS.

There's now the odd shower starting to form over the channel on radar.

Doesn't appear to be any sferics in the channel yet, unless I'm looking at the wrong thing....

I see what you mean, but I hope it gets more spectacular than two strikes 10 miles off Dieppe.

One of the sites i visit says Bedford will get rain in 77 minutes. NO lie. Never seen it come up with that before and I found it quite funny. It actually says it can tell you when it will start raining and when it will stop.   I will need to get a pic.
