OH MY GOD!!! Just heard the deepest angriest sounding growl of thunder I think I've ever heard in the distance. It sounded menacing, and quite scary  :cc_confused:

Can see lightning flashes to my north east and north west now, and can hear angry sounding deep thunder,  :clapping:

Wow wow wow. This is insane. The lightning is so frequent that the security lights around my hall keep turning off, they think it's daytime! This rivals some of the storms I saw in the US for lightning frequency.

Just listening to the live lightning detector says it all. http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime?lang=en. Assuming that is only picking up a handful of strikes too as many will be intra cloud given the elevated nature wont they?

More storms forming behind this beast as well! This totally unexpected event sure as hell beats the crappy "events" of recent weeks.

I can definatley see the slightest flickers of blue lightning, I am a little nervous as I am alone. I used to be scared of storms but its gotten better as I got older, just night time storms still make me a little apprehensive.

I know we can get them, I can't remember the year but the lightning was mental, purple in colour and so frequent bearly a second went by before another and crazy shapes too. Absolutely stunning it was,

My girlfriend has just woken up and not the biggest fan of night time thunder…I am therefore obliged to be her 'thunder buddy', which unfortunately prevents me from watching at the bedroom window. Bugger.

Some very bright lightning and loud deep rolling thunder observed nonetheless. Best night time storm I've seen for a while.

I can just see the very top of some of the bolts from where I am in East Surrey. No noise or noticeable lightening of the sky, as you'd expect, but I'm reasonably hopeful of something nearby later.

EDIT: I notice there is some considerable disruption to late-night train services in the Reading area, due to the effects of the storm.
