Capping seems to be an issue at the moment. Things could get interesting later in the evening though hopefully.

Skies look turbulent to the N and W. Seems like this will be the area of any development, since things are moving SSE or thereabouts.

I think I saw a good example of capping today - A cumulonimbus cloud was rising high and then looked as if it hit the ceiling. The top began to spread out in a perfect straight line. Not sure if I can explain it better but didn't get chance to photograph it. Looked brilliant though. Was good to see.

So what is the likelihood these showers will develop and become significantly convective, then head on down to the SE - more specifically Surrey / Hants areas, got a few look out spots I might head down to later, but wondering whether to hold off the beers if I'm gonna need to drive later

Hee hee just let the storm sneak up on the shield when it least expects it.

That's the plan hopefully. I expect people in this area will have better luck once I've gone home for summer in about a week though, it may be more of a portable shield that follows me.Would be nice to get some night time lightning flashes viewable from here but not getting my hopes too high as may be more of an outside chance.

A sheet of darkish and mildly unstable looking mid level cloud has replaced the sunny spells we did have until recently.

ATD also shows 2 sefrics SW of Gloucester, and Blitzortung realtime map just picked up another.

I'm hoping something reasonably sferically active can skirt by to the east after sunset to give some night time lightning. I'm not anticipating a direct hit with the direction these cells are moving (and where they are developing from) but they could still provide some entertainment, thanks to the POWER OF DARKNESS!!! :D

Sferics to the South, Sferics to the North, certainly seems like this area is a hotspot for thundery activity recently!

Think it will be a close one for us. Are these surface based storms or elevated? As there is an onshore wind here and that is notorious for killing SB storms

Tis a shame that where the cows are now, there will be a road built there this time next year.

It's more a hopecast if 'wot no storms' Bedford gets anything. Clouds have been interesting all day long, in fact it looked a bit stormy earlier on. Now it's a lovely out side, clouding over and even with a stuffed up nose, can smell the rain already.

note to self : find that camera. :wallbash:
