Looks like some showers that could turn electric are actually making their way across the channel now

Heres the back end of the first storm to hit, taken from just outside Thorne, Doncaster, with some wind turbines in the mid distance..

@ Tara: fastforward the SAT24 loop, makes it easier to determine the direction

@ Noah: Nowcast is the name of the game, you can see its getting unstable NW of the french supercell

The wind has turned to the east here so despite the promising radar thats probably the chance of anything gone for now. Watch them evaporate over the next hour or so!

Don't anyone ever suggest the east (and by that I mean the proper East) gets all the storms. Surely I can do better than 3 rumbles of thunder? Mind you that's about 100% improvement on this time last year so things are improving :D

I second that

Could be either. Meto suggest London involved, BBC suggest mainly Kent. Basically, we're just going to have to wait.

That wind change may help!

why?

different surface wind flows can aid develop a trough at the surface which in turn can aid convection. The overall track of the main storm areas has nothing to do with the surface flow overall today, the 500mb flow can be seen on Net Wx radar, use that for tracking the showers/storms, at least for a 2-3 hour slot

That cell over central Lancashire rapidly developed

It certainly did. The one developing just NE of Manchester will ikely do the same, judging from the spectacular clouds I can see in that direction. Skipton watch out!
