A couple of places in Portugal are forecast 47c tomorrow so it’s still possible. Athens at 48c bang on is the record

Can anyone answer this for me. The extreme heat in Iberia has coincided with a 'relatively ' cool gulf state atm

..e.g. Dubai maxima are currently 36c which is about 10c less than normal .

By mid next week this reverses and both return to their normal daytime temps. Just wondered if this was related or just coincidence?

Top temp so far is 45.5c over in Alvega, Portugal unlikely to break the all-time European record

Spoke to my neighbor in Spain she said it was no hotter than normal and that it is the silly season, no other news to report on

So for all the fuss and warnings that have been in place over the last month the European temperature hasn't been never broken, the UK temperature hasn't been  broken so is this all just hype a once a year thing that might not happen again.

Exactly! We've had 40c during August in Limousin (France) for the last 3 summers at times. We work, garden, cycle etc. and it's nothing special. The BBC report from Montpellier, where it was 37c, had people saying it was just normal. Hype and silly season as you say, but it's still important for vulnerable people to take care...

Definitely normal for most of Spain (last summer was hotter) but locally Babajoz hit an all time high as well as numerous locations in Portugal.

What a silly comment, half of the weather stations in Portugal reported record maximum temperatures, and parts of Spain were also record breakingly hot. Trying to deliberately play down the role climate change is having on our increasing number of summer heatwaves?

Definitely not normal but less notable in eastern Spain.
