Some storms coming from down south, just about to hit Portsmouth. Perhaps these could develop into the ones we were hoping for?

Had a couple of distant rumbles but think that may be our "storm" for today. Just not enough heat around to get anything special going. Currently just moderate rain and a uniform grey sky. Not really June weather.

Band of rain clearing to the North losing its electrical energy.

Just hope it can clear and bode well for more development later today!

Ahh well, there's always next year. lol.

That map actually hurts to look at, I mean look at the line of thunderstorms, its like it was trying to go everywhere west except Warwickshire.

When I was viewing storms earlier this morning it felt too fresh afterwards but the temp is rising and it feels more humid now. I think there is a fair amount of convection towards north north west. Dark clouds to south west ish. Great skies today.

I've got one storm about 10 miles SSE of me at the moment, although the sky is only a dull grey, the anvil and overhang earlier were massive. :D

Really deep distant rumbles heard here in last 5 mins. Think they are a few miles to my west. Hoping not all passes west of Manchester. Rain just starting to pep up as I am typing.

Any chance for me this afternoon? Only if I get one of those showers to the SW, I suppose.

I think writing today off before 9am might be a bit hasty! Give it a chance to warm up a bit! - it doesn't feel warm because it's 8.48 - if this was the sitch at 4pm then I might throw in the towel...but for now There is plenty more on the conveyor belt pushing up on radar.

Thunder in Derby!

There was indeed.

I personally was out at 7am chasing the storms over the West Midlands/Staffordshire. There was a lot of flashes and one massive bolt which hit as I was driving through Stafford town centre. Plenty of thunder growls but the rain wasn't anything spectacular.

Then I got back towards Derby just in time to drive through an intense torrential downpour around the A50/A38 roundabout with some flashes of lightning and a nice IC over Derby way. Got home to Derby just in time to hear it rumbling off to the north.

So....anymore :D

Actually feels warmer now that the storm has passed. I would only class it as a small storm, nothing special, but more ganging up to the south so feeling hopeful.

Rain setting here now, not heard any thunder but the wind has really started to gust and it's gone very dark.

Some deep thunder, but nothing to get excited over at the moment.

Oi Oi Oi that's a damn sight more than what I've got here (which is at this precise moment in time sunshine), don't knock it lol

http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime?lang=enWas introduced to it last night from this thread :)

Wicked thank you - it was posted during a thundery period a few weeks ago and couldn't for the life of me remember it Edited by Harry

Is the cell leaving Derby still active? Heading my way but it appears to be dying on the radar

Lots of rain but no thunder.. The energy has been weak here and thunder was unlikely in this locality anyway. Rain is not very heavy but is fairly heavy.
