Just woke up, seen a few distant flashes to the south, am getting a bit worried this storm is petering out across the channel.

I'm petering out waiting for the thing to cross the channel at get its butt to London! :wallbash::laugh:

There's absolutely no point waiting for something to move in off France, like I know some are waiting for.  It isn't going to happen as there's nothing to suspend it. As I mentioned earlier, highlighting the area for development (where, since, storms have developed) see below a trough is destabilising the atmosphere over the western Channel, causing these sporadic bursts of storms. The cluster furthest west however is developing along the cold front as it now begins to move in and react with the moisture rich plume originating from the south.

That storm ain't going to survive the Channel crossing, in my books, as I would imagine its well rooted into the boundary layer now. I've highlighted the area I'm watching most in red. I may be wrong however, but that's how I see it...

The place to watch is out west, anywhere along the cold front, as it becomes further engaged with the plume and destabilises. Solar heating should promote some real beauties across the Midlands tomorrow afternoon.

First very faint rumble heard, it's flashing a lot more often than the live map is indicating, I'm seeing near constant flashes on the horizon.

Agree, lots of distant flashing and constant deep rumble

The Live Strike map seems to be a bit naff. All those strikes showing up on the webcams but not on the strike map. The storm going on in this webcam looks a beast and its heading towards the South coast http://www.st-jouin-bruneval.fr/webcam_stjouin_plage.php

Could they not be registering because a large proportion are cloud-cloud strikes, and not CG?

The Channel looking very active. Interest for the my part of the Midlands would be the cells moving north out of Caen. More cells developing over the West Country too ahead of the Channel storms.

That Dawlish webcam is rather impressive to watch currently, you can clearly hear the thunder too.
