the rain tha moved up from southamption stilll has some heavy rain in out but it's not as widespread as it was on the coast not sure about thunder activity though and bear in mind when you do get it , it's not exactly hanging around in fact it puts the royal mail to shame

It seems to be a common pattern for storm activity to die out for a couple hours in the morning before reinvigorating. I can understand why the heat of the day may cause storms to reinvigorate but would be interested to know why storms generally seem to lose intensity through the 8-11am period?

With night time convection its all about Diurnal heating, when the heating starts to drop so the storms will start to fade, the diurnal minimum is at midday so there is your answer. I can't find a good link at the mo on convection and diurnal heating (to much going on here) but i'll try and find one later unless someone else knows of one offhand.

Just a little joke, at least we seen some action..... some had now't :whistling::good:

I was hoping for both of us and it worked. :D

Was this referencing too I wonder?

Woken up to find it seems to be the usual places to have gotten the most lightning strikes so far this year, parts of C Southern England and Wales. Although just heard a distant rumble so fingers crossed for Medway!

Yep starting to see that cloud move in here at Benfleet, just over the Thames, that will be the channel stuff from earlier. Might need to see some storms break out ahead of this band though as it appears to be easing somewhat.

Looking towards you from here in Greenhithe.....

Seems a bit weird to word it that way as it says just before things quieten down in the evening.

Looking very constipated - saw three suspected IC flashes (one definite as I saw the bolt) but thunder almost non existent. Some light convective precip going on but otherwise just very eerie and humid with a breeze which has appeared.

You might hate me for saying this but yes still altocumulus cloud but this time not altocumulus castellanus cloud covers the skies here. This suggests that the air is still unstable but not as unstable as yesterday.

Wow, that clap was directly overhead & made the whole house shudder. Sounded like canon fire! And now my head is really banging - always get bad headache when it's stormy!

V6 Radar now working again!

Also an interesting precip chart by MetO, might not have to move anywhere if this comes off

Plenty of rain on the radar to the south of here, sadly there doesn't seem to be much lightning! So far staying up all night hasn't payed off

Hopefully round 4 is just coming into Essex, will it make it this far up, everything is starting to fade as we reach the diurnal min.
