Amazed how that line has appeared across the Midlands in less than an hour, connecting the Peterborough initiation to the Birmingham storm

According to my weather station it's now 20c and it's only 8.20am! Suns still out here but cloud increasing all the time now.

Well that was short.Bit brighter now behind the cell that has just passed.

Another cell has developed near Loughborough, could have our name on it if it survives

Nothing here yet but the skies are darkening to the south so I better cancel cutting the grass and putting the washing out.

Woke up at 7.15 to thunder. Slowly creeped into the town. Had a couple of close ones and then moved north. Exciting for 10 mins. Why don't they hang around anymore. While I was growing up they would be here for hours and hours rumbling around. I take it that's it for my area for today.

As suspected ten mins of moderate rain no storm, brightening from the south i feel it will be a day of showers unless the heat picks up which i doubt.

Considering how near the storms are its eerily quiet here now. Gone are the sounds of birdsong and overhead aircraft holding for Manchester.

Some loud rumbles of thunder in Cambridge, flash in the distance about 45 minutes back too.

Any idea how long through the day this will last? Any rough idea when Cambridge area could be in the clear? Not until later tonight?

Definitely a new zone of thundery activity firing over Hampshire...plenty to play for it would seem...still looks like (from the radar) Kent has a lid on it. Would be interested to see the CIN charts!

Barely slept all night - curtains/windows open.  Some some distant faint flashes to my west as the electrical activity came onshore over Weymouth but ultimately a big, big disappointment for me.  Now I'm just tired and a little bit grumpy!  :nonono:

Going off the live lightning, it is definitely becoming less electrical.

My gosh, its all about luck in my area. Didn't see anything, none of it was that loud. I honestly cannot believe they missed up by so little!!! The rest of today looks disappointing too.

Bit naff here, 5 minutes of slight rain and despite the dark skies and mid-level convection there's not been a single rumble heard, other than my stomach resulting from last night's kebab. Here's hoping the home-counties cells pulls off the goods for midday.

Now dull and grey after some "interesting" skies at 7.30am. Actually quite unpleasant outside with a very gusty and strong SE'ly. And cold. It's been like this on and off for most of spring  :nonono:
