Nice to see a storm that finally made it across the largest part of the English channel :) The storm to east still crossing the channel seems to have died down quite abit in the last hour, let's hope something starts back up when it hits land, that one could have my name on it lol.

Not looking good so far, the storm is breaking into two, one side heading towards Wales, and the other towards London.

Ah but you can see the cold front...cells are initiating along it when its hitting the unstable air. It looks good for many currently. You can almost draw the straight line from off the coast of Wales down to the English channel

Lightning 24 miles south. Is anyone able to see it from Bristol yet?

My focus was on my location/West Country but when I zoomed out I noticed that south of Aberdaron(Wales) that things are kicking off there too!

I think the further west you are, the earlier you should expect the storms, metoffice seem to think a clump of storms will be in the channel around 9am, while what is over Devon will be up here by then.

Yes you can and it will be the proximity of the cold front that is allowing these cells to sustain and develop. The cells further east are further away from the front which is why they are not holding their strength as well. I am hoping that cold front can bring some good thunderstorms around here later.

Lightning activity has died down considerably on Dawlish cam as the storms have now pushed away to the north.

Looking like a MCS is forming over the West Country looking at current observations:

EDIT:North of Taunton taking a battering looking at the lightning detector!

That's a good sign for us, but this may inhibit anything over Wales and Midlands if it can't keep going!

Looks like its going to go past slightly to the W of Bristol. Could be some spectacular views for areas along the Severn Estuary

I'm having one hell of a thunderstorm over here. Frequent sheet lightning, deep booming thunder and torrential rain. Just what I wanted.

Not yet. We are sat in a bit of a "hollow" in the valley so the view towards Bristol is a bit obscured...my eyes are glued to the window though :PShould be more viewable when its to my West Edited by Chris K

any reason why there isn't more cells going up just seems to have gone quite apart from that one big thunderstorm

Unbelievable. It went to the west of me, not only that-, it is pretty much in the area that the met office left unwarned- give or take a few miles.. You couldn't make it up!
