Sky going ever darker here, although the front seems to be falling apart a little.

A video freeze frame of the best bolt of yesterday's chase. Unfortunately I was pretty much stuck inside the car due to the intensity of the rain, going out in it would have just meant a destroyed camcorder:

That looks like the dip in Blithfield resovoir to me. Nice shot though.

Spot on mate. Regarding tomorrow, currently gfs does not build much CAPE but WRF does for EA and the SE late in the day. So possibilities in the east but widespread thunderstorms unlikely. I will check back after the 12z suites.

Early warnings out for Tuesday

Issued at: 1034 on Sun 25 May 2014

Valid from: 0005 on Tue 27 May 2014

Valid to: 2359 on Tue 27 May 2014

A prolonged spell of rain, heavy at times, is expected to affect parts of eastern England during Tuesday. The public should be aware of possible disruption, particularly to travel, and possible localised surface water flooding.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A frontal zone developing over the Low Countries will start to spread westwards into the UK later on Monday. This frontal zone is then expected to linger over part of eastern England on Tuesday giving a prolonged spell of rain which could see some eastern parts here seeing more than 30 mm of rain in 24 hours. There is still some uncertainty regarding where the highest accumulations will occur, and the area seeing these very high accumulations is likely to be smaller than the area marked in the alert.

Yorkshire & Humber

East Midlands

East of England

Certainly not looking very nice for Tuesday and Wednesday single figure maxes for some eastern coasts best of the sunshine in the west some hints of something more settled by Friday

Just moderate frequent showers at the moment here, felt warm and muggy earlier but I'll be surprised if anything spectacular forms.

Yesterday had a massive surprise here in Doncaster!

Storm was approaching which had a feature that was rotating quite fast.

Captured it all on video for you guys to confirm if its just a rotating updraft.

Winds were very turbulent when this feature was overhead!

Great video, there is definite rotation. Have you speeded this video up or is the real time speed of rotation?

The video has been x3 speeded up supacell. Real time was still quite rapid. On the photo you can see the feature lowering.

It almost looks like a rotating meso. I wonder if any funnels were reported around the Doncaster area as this looks ready to drop.

It dissipated once it went over head then thunder and lightning started. Then in distance there was nothing to be seen

Definite rotation looks like a meso to me.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
