Thundery rain we have. Thunder we certainly do not  :fool:

I don't get it. Been watching it coming all day at work in Doncaster and the whole of the NW radar is red with the stuff. I head home at 17:15, sprites on the radio, black as the Ace of Spades to the SE. I get home and the rain starts in earnest. I tell everyone we are in for a big one and what happens? Thundery rain!!!

Where did the thunder go? It is there to the SE of here (HU17) at 18:00 but when I get to the PC (now) it's all gone as if by magic. :wallbash:

I feel like joining the no storms club after this let down but I guess they won't have me  :cc_confused:

The BBC say 'thundery showers' - I'll take them. They also occasionally say 'thundery downpours' - I'll take them too. What I won't take is thundery bl@@dy rain! I hate it!!!  :nonono:

Gonna cry in my cup of tea now.....

As I mentioned earlier, its due to the onshore wind in our neck of the woods. It kills any activity stone dead. I was hopeful today but as soon as I saw the wind didnt change from the NE it was pretty much over before it got here.

Complete let down again here. Even going out chasing Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire I only managed to see one flash. Cannot believe the speed they fizzled as they approached. No storms in Derby since January.

Same here This week has been a total write off

The most amazing skies i've seen for a long time and fast developing cumulonimbus clouds as well with deep rain shafts..

No thunder :(

Yep Reef,

I read your post earlier after I had vented my spleen.... It is amazing how fast that died and the NE we have had all day is still going strong, although not at ground level. Also complete lack of sunshine - I never saw any all day.

It is amazing how that rogue easterly can blow your snow chances in the winter and storm chances in the summer, however, we don't do too bad here to be honest.

Oh well, there's always tomorrow's convergence line from Flamborough to Liverpool to keep us interested eh?

Interesting line of developing showers running from the SW. NEwards. Looks like it's down to current wind convergence, worth keeping an eye on to see if they can develop into storms, the suns going to go down but with so much energy in the atmosphere still it could be the needed trigger.

Funny how that blob in the N Sea has stayed active though, in spite of the wind direction. There was a storm there last night too: the one that clipped Kent and Lowestoft and eventually ended up in Oslo!

ITV weather just mentioned reports of a tornado near Cambridge, anyone else heard/seen anything?

Currently very dark coming in toward Yeovil from the south...a few flashes of lightning and rumbles can be heard too...nothing showing up on any radars though! Starting to rain a little too..

It only appears to be an area of light to moderate rain, no sferics showing Mumbles.

thanks! despite no direct hits today, i was able to get my eyes on that supercell over Heidelberg in 30 kilometer distance...so it was quite enjoyable today!

Out of interest, why when you film lightening does it always appear as a horizontal flashing rather than how it actually looks?

From my very limited knowledge Lauren it's best to try and film lightning with the auto focus function off.

Playing around with the video from the other day, anyone know what type of lightning you would specify this as?

Looked like a negative cloud to cloud strike below the cloud base due to the storms high level.
