I'm starting to feel sorry for people in Bristol you seem you have missed quite alot lately, I was the same until today. Fingers crossed for you.

Can hear thunder again to my south, looks like this will be our 3rd for today. Things should then clear up nicely here and the sun should appear. Who knows what will happen later :)

 

Still a nice bunch of storms/showers moving out of France atm.

I wish I'd been over there this week instead of last - but at least I did get a couple of storms when I was there!

Yep looking good and now the sun is out adding an extra bit of fuel :D And they are growing across the channel..

 

I might like to add that we had our first import of the year technically today... so hats of I think..  :drunk:  :drunk:  :clap:

I'm just hoping that as well as 'travelling' the storms are destabilising the air in front of them? We've got plenty of moisture here in west yorks that's for sure........ at least the lawn is happy.........

Yes, with the amazing storm avoidance that Leighton Buzzard managed last summer, I don't feel sorry for anyone! Just a shame i'm here in London when they are having some fun at home. My 4 year old son is the only family member there today - at Nursery. I expect a full account of what it was like when I get home :laugh:

Typical, best storms of the year so far rolls over Heathrow while I'm in a work meeting, could hear the hail bouncing off the roof though and could see lightning flickering occasionally out the corner of my eye through the windows  ... sunshine now

for those in central southern England (south of the M4 mainly Mid wilts/dorset) you might be wondering why we've seen little to nothing in the way of storm activity whilst surrounding areas are being pummelled...well, I have an explanation of sorts, and in a way it's simply a case of being located in the wrong place at the wrong time. 

 

To elaborate, earlier on this morning, a mutlicell complex of storms fired over northern france, this travelled across the Channel fuelled by instability in both the lower and mid levels producing prodigious lightning. The problem though is that as the complex traversed northwards it started to lose intensity as the atmospheric profiles became saturated throughout the levels. The Result being, the air becomes rain cooled and starts to descend cutting off the fuel supply as such thus the air becomes more stable throughout the levels and the rainfall becomes more dynamic in nature. but, why, you might ask are storms firing all over the place on the periphery of this complex. Will, It's my understanding that these new storms (currently pummelling a lot of central england/wales) are firing along the outflow boundaries of the decaying multicell complex. Again to elaborate a touch further, the rain cooled air descends to the lower levels and exits the multicell complex into the surrounding clearer air. This air, moisture rich, is then subject to insolation (solar heating)  and convects back up into the atmosphere and rapidly destabilizes to form more showers/storms....the poor sops (including me) are stuck under the decaying complex and experience moderate rainfall whilst others get nailed with big storms :( )

I wish I'd been over there this week instead of last - but at least I did get a couple of storms when I was there!

 

Yeah, some good setup today, what was your location here last week? There were alot of smaller storms all across germany, so hard to tell where it could be! :D

Problem is the front is stalled over N England which may buffer the the storms from moving much further north.

Storms now visible south of Derby,wouldn't be suprised if I hear thunder in the next half an hour now!!
