Terribly out of focus photo of last nights spectacular display but you get the general idea.

One of the best displays I've seen for a few years. I'll keep my eyes peeled again tonight as we only have light high cloud.

Nice video and pics, both of you. Down here, the forecast is for increasing cloud cover before sunset every evening from what seems like here to eternity, so I don't get the impression I'll see them this year.

Been looking for the past few nights but only hints of something, nowt like last year so far. Hoping for something good tonight, camera armed and ready.

ELECTRIC-BLUE SUMMER CLOUDS: Noctulicent clouds (NLCs) are a phenomenon of summer. Ironically, that is when the top of Earth's atmosphere is cold enough to form ice crystals around meteor smoke--the "stuff" of NLCs. So, you know the summer solstice is near when the late-night sky starts to look like this:

"This fine display of NLCs lasted a number of hours and was visible all across Northern Ireland," says photographer Andy McCrea of Bangor in County Down. "These pictures were taken around 3am on June 20th."

Mark McKenna of Maghera, Northern Ireland, also saw the cloud's signature electric-blue ripples. "Last night's absolutely spectacular noctilucent cloud display was one of the best I have seen in years," he says. "The NLCs were beautiful, glowing vivid white then blue. Of note were the graceful whirls, herringbone, sharp bands and lacunosus holes, the NLCs were even casting shadows onto other NLC forms."

Long ago, NLCs were confined to the Arctic, but in recent years they have been sighted as far south as Colorado and Utah. Some researchers think the increasing visibility is a sign of climate change. Whatever the cause, sky watchers should be alert for NLCs as northern summer unfolds. http://spaceweather.com/

Yep. Looking North over the Moelwyn mountains from Llan Ffestiniog towards Snowdon (well hidden behind the ridge). The whole Northern horizon from left to right and 30° or so high was brightly illuminated with NL clouds at midnight. Sadly I didn't have my tripod and in a rush used the wrong camera settings so the blurred image was caused by the long exposure.

NOCTILUCENT OUTBURST: Sky watchers in Europe are reporting an outburst of bright noctilucent clouds (NLCs). The display began at sunset on July 3rd, filling northern horizons with electric-blue ripples, swirls, and tendrils of light. Morten Ross sends this picture from Sandbukta, Norway:

"An incredibly bright and widespread display - from northern horizon to zenith!" says Ross. "This is only the third night of July and its already much better than last year." Similar reports have come from France, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland, England and Belgium. http://spaceweather.com/

Doh, missed this unless it was cloudy here early on the 4rd (but seen some great pics from Paignton south of here). Probably more last night looking at reports but clouded out here. Maybe I can see something in the coming nights.

Only seen a small patch to the north one early morning, but it wasn't enough to go and take pictures or resist getting back into bed.

0056- Yep, really bright one visible low down just east of due north. Only visible through gap in low cloud, but even with that it stands out.

Didn't see any after sunset but some low down here and traces to quite high in the sky now, maybe it will get brighter as dawn approaches.

Early hours of Friday morning gave a display in the NNE sky. First spotted at 2.30am but pictures came out completely black until these a while later

Some of these clouds look like ripples that you get when light is reflecting on a body of water!

Managed a picture this morning at 03:30 but was at work so only had my phone. Not too bad though.
