I just had a bike ride and I saw storm clouds looming in the distance.

Looks like our area is missing out on all the stratospheric fun on Big Bertha's south eastern flank.  Just rain here - might get a little gusty later but Manchester will do what it's known for... taking steady, prolonged but far from exciting deposits of rainfall.

It's really just been patchy rain here, but a couple of heavier spells have added up to 6mm.There's some thunder near the coast just now though.Very light winds so far,On Friday evening there was torrential rain which gave 23mm in 3 or 4 hours - far more severe event.

Yeah nothing at all remarkable in our region, dull, persistent rain and not a breath of wind. Temperatures are disappointing here in South Shields currently at 14.7℃.

Should start to brighten up soon and heavy thunderstorms already SW of York could sneak into our region.  Possible fun and games with regards to the wind strength later (midnight onwards?) could gust over 60mph around the coasts and possibly 70 over the hills (Pennines, Cheviots).

Yes, looking at pictures from elsewhere in the country, we've had nothing to get excited about at all!

Northeast England got off lightly again last night with no high rainfall, the winds picked up slightly but again not noteworthy. The winds this morning ,however, are on the increase. Doubt if we record 60mph here on the coast, but still quite a windy day for August.!!

Peak gust of 44mph about 12:30Lots of twiggy branches and leaves blown off.It has been a long time since we had  strong wind - even during summer there are often a few gusty days.It rained for about 12 hours here yesterday, and was never very heavy - but racked up 20mm by midnight.
