Probably rained more last 24 hours than it did the whole of september (and seems there's much more rain to come too)

Rain cleared and temp jumped from 8c to 12c. However a sharp hail shower just rattled through, temp back down to 10c. Hardly ideal conditions for the Dunhill golf.

Feels pretty chilly this evening... a nice crisp change after that monster deluge.

Airmass RGB from Satellite image depicts the colder air pouring in, some places down below freezing overnight too.

Jet painting a nice picture too in tonight's GFS run.

Sunny cool pm  after some light rain in the morning. Currently 5c and clear skies. Were lucky to miss the heavy stuff.

Yeah just a little bit and it seems we have gone from leaving behind the season of warmer/brighter summery weather to the first chilly feeling/looking weather of the autumn/winter season within the space of a week. A maximum of 13c in what was a bright but blustery day with showers. Definitely the sky has more a chilly, autumnal quality to it in the evening. The showers have stopped and it is a calm, clear night with a chilly temperature of 4c.

After a very decent summer, extending into September with a dry, warm and ideal start to autumn, I'm looking forward to autumn proper and traditions of the transition towards winter.

Unfortunately not, strong winds from the west arriving and temps up to 8'C now. A whisper of winter which will become all the more vocal as the month progresses!

Real chill to the air here yesterday, weather station showed mid 8s C most of the day. Rained up until early afternoon then cleared nicely to sun and blue skies.

That led to what is probably the first air frost of the season with an overnight low of -0.3C. Definite frost on the grass in the back garden but not heavy.

Morning all, a noticeable increase in posts as we get into Autumn proper!

Low was 5.1c here in Crail, 2.8c in Leuchars, which nicely highlights local topography. Here in Crail where we're very exposed our first air frost is often in late November.

Breezy here to this morning although dry Currently 8.8c. New calf outside,  mother lying beside it to give it shelter, a change from just a few days ago when they were stretched flat out in the sun. Started winter feeding routine in the fields a few days ago to supplement the grass which will finally stop growing now

Wow - the TOORPing just gets earlier and earlier https://forum.netweather.tv/topic/81288-early-winter-hopes-and-chat/page-33

Basically, the snow cover is roughly where it should be (the crucial phase is what happens between now and the end of October), the El Nino hasn't properly kicked on yet, the QBO will be negative (we knew that one anyway) the OPI so far is decisively negative and has bombed today and so will the AO over the next few days. This might be a nice taster of things to come:

npsh500.072.png

Anyway, the gist of it is that everything's going to plan so far. Lots of important starting conditions are yet to be determined and could genuinely go either way, but things are definitely looking better than they were last autumn, and if the snow cover and OPI pan out well I reckon we could see some stratospheric (and perhaps even tropospheric too) feedback even before winter proper kicks off...

Well that's it confirmed, it's definitely October. 12.1C at 8am in Kemnay and pretty windy, dry then but just started raining now at work in Dyce. If the forecast is correct it might be Wednesday before the rain stops.

Edit: Rain really on with a vengeance now, and combined with a strong gusty wind I'm glad I'm not outside!

Very windy but missing the rain so far currently 10.9c.    Finally put oil fired rayburn back on  at the weekend after 4 months with out it.     Proof that we have had fairly warm summer early autumn with little wind to create draughts in this old farmhouse.

Wind has died down now and torrential rain on the way oot. An interesting rearrangement in the garden this morning, but himself setting all things right whilst I am at work with a crap laptop.

It's chilly out there! 2'C and not a breath of wind - a touch of frost and the first I've seen since spring!

A total of 18.7mm of rain yesterday, which incidentally is exactly the same amount as we had on Saturday, with Sunday being dry. This morning by around 7:30am we'd had 9.7mm of rain and it's currently grey, misty and breezy with constant fine rain (varying between light/heavy).

Well, we awoke to 4.5 degrees this morning, it's calm, cloudy and cool. Proper autumn! Leaves almost gone from the trees and wee birdies emptying the feeders as fast as I can fill them!
