Hope is not all lost though as low pressure will remain close to southern England tomorrow and Saturday with enough instability to generate showers and also bring showers up from France.

Though the storm risk tomorrow looks likely to be the West Midlands

Saturday

Looks better for a widespread outbreak of showery, some thundery in nature.

Sunday looks mostly dry at the moment with a weak ridge of high pressure developing over the low countries and low pressure drifting south west.

Bank holiday Monday looks wet with heavy rain pushing up from the continent (could be thundery in nature???)

Sunny spells now. But I can see some very dark menacing clouds to the south. Oh why not.... It will be rude not to have another storm... Haha

Hey - Tamara hope you have been able to steer clear of the storms :-)

Warm and sunny here now, quite pleasant in the sunshine too (doors and windows open again) some columns of cloud rising again though.

steam pouring off the fence in the warm sunshine though.

Raining here now (not heavy or thundery) and it looks like the cloud is starting to break up somewhat.

It's stopped

Well I tried to get a timelapse during the storm earlier over the Hampshire/Dorset borders but seems my camera ran out of battery before the rain fell. Pretty clouds though.

The most amazing skies i've seen for a long time and fast developing cumulonimbus clouds as well with deep rain shafts..

No thunder :(

hi all

today in croydon was the best storm ive had for ages

anyway tonight

http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

there are still some heavy showers around but should ease off through the night

a very slim chance of a rumble but here at present some very angry looking clouds but only rain

will feel a lot fresher tonight but not cold

------------------------------------------------------------------

tomorrow

Posted Image

a southerly flow

rainfall

Posted Image

still possible showers to our very far north early and far south west

but the north should clear just after breakfast

Posted Image

most areas should be dry by around 2pm

however the low is very close to our far south west of our region and showers may persist for a while

later

Posted Image

all areas look to be dry but a chance the odd light shower may get caught up in the southerly flow

my call here is mainly dry and sunny

temps

Posted Image

around 15-18 degrees

Posted Image

the wind will be breezy and will swing to an easterly as we head overnight

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

friday night

Posted Image

an easterly flow north of london

a southerly flow anywhere south of london

will be quite weak

Posted Image

there will be some drizzle early but heavier rain moving in effecting all before breakfast

temps

Posted Image

around 12 degrees

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

saturday

Posted Image

Posted Image

winds will swing back in the morning to a southerly and will be gusty

rainfall

8am

Posted Image

heavier rain effecting all

by 2pm

Posted Image

looks likely heavy rain will still effect all areas

note there looks to be a band of possible torrential rain for a time which looks to effect north of london

this however is a guide and may end up further south

if you get the heavier bursts the odd rumble is possible but not a high confidence on this

rain also could stick around all day with this set up

temps

Posted Image

around 14-17 degrees so will feel a shade fresher

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

saturday night

Posted Image

a breezy south west flow and could get windy on all coastal regions

rainfall

Posted Image

rainfall could stick until late in the evening however its looks to start easing off overnight

temps

Posted Image

around 10-12 degrees

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

sunday

Posted Image

a breezy south west wind

warmish 15-19 degrees

but im holding off on this until tomorrow

if that trough shifts slightly its the difference between being dry or sunny spells and poss storms

anyway hope your all good

john

Beautiful outside now. Very calm, can see the dark blue sky against some of the cloud floating by, and it feels nice and warm. Only downside is the bloody gnats - hissss.

My attempts at filming the storms were a bust thanks to traffic and a distinct lack of viewpoints where I could park up and film but  my word, what a day that was for spectacular thunderstorms around here.

I vote that an 8.5/10

Couple of houses hit by lightening in Rushden apparently this afternoon with some damage. My wife said it was pretty continuous at home from 2pm-4.30pm with some decent sized hail thrown in. At work in Bedford it we only really had significant thunder and lightening between 3.15-4pm. Still freaked out the Norwegians in the meeting. Told them there was a lightening rod on the roof. Assume there is, given the amount of IT infrastructure (over 2000 cpu cores) in a 4 floor building.

Hi Bluebreezer! I thought you would be seeing some spectacular thunderstorms yesterday! I was on the edge of things but could see lightning to my NW and North which is Northwood, Watford etc! I missed most of the showers and got about 20 minutes of rain at best, most of the thunder and lightning was just too far away!

Hello Lassie. Of the 4 storms I saw in total only one passed almost overhead and that rattled through at a fair rate of knots. I set off in the car but couldn't keep up with it.

The largest of the storms was the last one and that was to my east, more towards Wembley, Harrow way I would think. Quite an afternoon. :)
