It was distinctly summery when I popped out at lunchtime and I could have quite happily sunk a beer in the pub garden. The evenings are now noticeably drawing in now though and this is about the time things start to feel more Autumn than summer.

It sure does seem the east coast is the most frustrating place for weather in the UK. Any easterly drift and its mostly dreadful. Even as far inland as Nottingham you just knew when the wind was from east as low cloud and that nippy breeze were in place.

But the same places (Nottingham included) had a great sunny winter back in 2011 (I think - am forgetting the dates now!) when it was very westerly driven and so many on here were complaining about the mild grey weather...

This week not seen a cloud since the weekend (which was very cloudy) and its been 24c everyday. Looks to continue until (of course) the weekend when rain begins to show up on the forecasts...

Perfect for what?

Enjoying the outdoors and being able to socialise more and enjoying a few evening drinks outside. Not a day to be stuck inside behind closed curtains, at least not here where the sun has been out. Not so good for you lot up North!

Just a dull and sunless affair here. This was our last chance at prolonged summer weather - I think it won't be until May that we get anything remotely like that - maybe April if we  get 2011 or 2007 again. What a bummer.

Living in this location can be a  blessing and a curse - we're living it up when we get a plume and temperatures rise into the low 30s, but then we get these garbage easterlies and the sun doesn't shine for days..

It's been a great September here really. Not hugely Sunny but pretty warm. What has also been great about it is the low winds and most of all the distinct lack of rain, to my recollection it hasn't rained since September 2nd here, and that was a very light drizzle. That is quite amazing.

To me it's been the best September since 2006. The CET is also a bit misleading due to the cool nights due to clear skies. In reality it's been rather warm by day. Certainly much more than 1c above average that the CET suggests. I do feel however that the warmth we will get today, tomorrow and Saturday is really the last proper gasp of Summer. We may get the odd warmish day or two, but certainly not hitting 24-25c that is forecast for the next two days. Better make the most of it.

All in all it's been a damn good Summer. Only thing that stopped it being great is the mindbogglingly dismal August.

Oh, is that it?? Was expecting something a little more exciting but thanks for clearing that up anyway. I find the outdoors more enticing and enjoyable when the sun is hidden and temperatures are low, and that drinks are best taken indoors. But that's just me....

Well would you believe it. The sun is out here and the final taste of summer has finally arrived but how long will it last.

In terms of the growing season - its been perhaps the longest since 2003 which saw an early start in March lasting thereon through to the end of September. 2006 started a little later thanks to a cold March but lasted well into October.

Compared to last year when things didn't properly get going until mid/late April and came to an end mid Sept despite the mild October.

I've never known the grass grow so fast. Conditions have been ideal with plenty of lengthy dry warm spells interspersed with moderate outbreaks of rain but nothing too long lasting. Farmers will be rejoicing at the moment - perfect for the harvest.

The last for weekends have been dry here - very good going and apart from one night with light rain - can't quite remember its been bone dry. Very similar to 2006.

I'm quite ready for the atlantic to barrel in - by October its too dark in the evenings to make most of any dry weather.

Leeming, N Yorkshire has had its dullest 7-day period of the year so far - with 3.9 hours of sun between between the 12th and 18th - including 3 consecutive sunless days. Dullest in January was 4.3 hours between the 25th and 31st. 63 hours for the month so far.

Cracking day here, lots of very warm sunshine. Made better by there being barely a breath of wind.

Disappointingly grey today.

The so-called best day of the week has actually been the worst so far.

Is warm and muggy here now that the sun is out

All of the UK will be in fresher air by Sunday but we will be remaining settled and cloud should be more broken, temperatures should be around average

This period of weather has been absolutely dire here with just 2.7hrs of sunshine in the last 7 days. It has been relentlessly damp too, with humidity above 70% for much of the period and with poor visibility.

The first 19 days of the month has seen just 51 hours of sunshine and we've seen fog on 5 out of the last 6 days.

Absolutely grim, there's no other words to describe it.

I could say the same, but today has turned out OK - it's raining for the first time since I can't remember when. Beautiful.

Beyond bored of this miserable grey murk, 24c shown all week on charts for today with thunderstorms only to end up as 16c, dark and drizzly with 200-300 meter visibility all day.

Lost count of the number of forecast 'decent days' this month which have ended up grey, and two more coming up this weekend :lazy: .

I've had my weather station a year now, and today I recorded the most ever rain in a day (19.8mm). The 2nd most rainiest is 18th Jul (due to an intense storm in the morning; also the hottest day of the year)  and the 3rd is the August bank holiday (total washout).

Similarly to the early hours of 18th Jul, there was a massive storm last night which woke me up at 4am. I watched the Scottish referendum TV coverage for a while (and saw the most important results come in!) and then went to sleep again at 5am once the storm had passed. The rain was very heavy and I recorded my highest ever 'rain rate' at 04:25, with about 14mm of the  19.8mm falling in just 20 minutes.

The storm finished off what has been the best year since 2009 or earlier for thunderstorms in my area (I know we're only in summer astronomically, but still).

Exactly the same here. Just horrific. 8 minutes of sunshine in the past 5 days and 1.7 hours in the past week. Only the week ending 31st January has been duller this year. 2007, 2008 and 2011 did not have a single 7-day spell this dull.

Worst September weather since the final 9 days of September 1998 but I can't even recall that being as murky and foggy as this week as been. Monday was the worst with 8mm of rain and it was practically dark during the middle of the day as if it were already November.

Not reached 20C since 16th August and increasingly unlikely to do so now. Earliest Autumn since 1992 when there was no 20C after 5th August.
