Well, it was as warm as expected in Sussex, but what happened to the promised bright sunshine? It was as dull as a dull thing all day.

I hate rail-replacement bus services. It too four and a half hours to get back to my bit of west London, rather than the usual two and a half-ish.

Evening all

What a fantastic day it turned out to be, first time I have stepped out this year and gone out without a coat on.  Sun came out in force during the afternoon and made for a rather remarkably warm day.  Shame that is the weekend over already.

Evening :)

A warm day, up to 18.8c but not really sunny at all. In fact it was so hazy you couldn't tell the sky from the sea on the horizon in places..a big tanker looked like it was floating in mid-air over the Channel!

Felt humid though..any chance that lot in the Channel now could be thundery?

Just seen the local forecast on Look East and then the national weather after and thundery mix was mentioned.

Evening, a warm and bright day here, though it did cloud over during the afternoon. Looks like being warm throughout this week with hopefully some thundery action.

Morning everyone, hard to get up today with the clocks changing, back to dark mornings for another few weeks. A dull start again here but very mild, hopefully the forecast sunshine will materialise today.

Also the car is covered in dust this morning, Saharan I suspect?

Cloudy but mild here with the temperature at 11.1C.  Cloud looks pretty solid, making it more than a little dull.

Yesterday was mild, bordering on warm, but hardly saw any sun.

Looks like I may be on the edge of some sea fog for a good part of the week

Mornin each. Dull in Ippy but quite mild. There is that smell in the air which, in my opinion betokens a thundery shower later. Or is that wishful thinking. :)

Hope you all have an excellent day. :)

Ahh, I wish.

I think there's a slightly higher chance in Ippy than up here.  The Beeb forecast this morning showed it tracking North, with most of it being West of us.  Never mind, summers coming

Graphic from Windy Wilson's Twitter page showing the extent of Saharan dust currently in the air over the UK being brought northward by south/south easterly winds. Some of this likely to fall to the surface in any showers over the next few days.

Good morning everyone. Mild and overcast here with the sun doing it's best to break through again. All the cars around here were covered in the Saharan dust this morning. Apparebtly it may be hanging around in the atmosphere for much of this week so I would hold fire with any car cleaning for now.

Have a good week all.Posted Image

19.1c, cloudy

"Londoners were today warned that sand from a Saharan storm will contribute to one of the worst smogs of the year this week. The Met Office has forecast the highest 10 out of 10 level of air pollution in the capital for tomorrow and Wednesday.Motorists woke up to find their cars covered in a thin layer of dust after overnight showers deposited the sand on much of London. Southerly winds from north Africa brought the fine sand over southern England after it was swept up in a desert storm late last week. Paul Hutcheon, Deputy Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, said: “We usually see this happen several times a year, particularly in summer when you get these big dust storms in the western Sahara and the southerly winds to bring that dust here.â€

Sun trying to break through in Surbiton with very high but continuous milky clouds overhead presumably thinning. Yes it was hard getting started this morning after the clocks changed yesterday but at least I'm working from home so avoided the dreaded journey in - husband did it instead to get son to school and struggled to not have a nervous breakdown in the traffic. Will check later to see how SW London faired in the Saharan Sand Storm stakes.

Talking of sand, off to St Lucia on Thursday first thing. A bit bogged down with clearing work to get excited, but I know deep down I can't wait to get some lovely sunshine and hopefully snorkelling. Will be watching JP's updates with interest for airport conditions. We are checking in the night before and staying at Gatwick Hilton - travel outfits are exercising us greatly at the moment in conjunction with what to put in hand luggage 'just in case'...

Very muggy today, no sign of the sun again with light rain on and off depositing more muck on the car

Aaaand here it is.

for the moment at least I think you will be unlucky on the T&L front.

I think everything seems to be about 50 miles East of the BBC forecast this morning.

Doubt if we'll get much here either, cloud too hick for any convective activity

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
