 Maybe all those in here posting about their pants drying on the line, sick animals et al can also take such topics to the lounge. I come here to report & view the local weather events in my region, not scroll through off topic mundane posts. On topic ~ The Chilterns had every possible shield up as usual, no thunderstorms or anything of note weatherwise happening here. Even rainfall diverted itself to the North of the region. Pretty chilly cold breeze for the last 24hrs though.  Currently : Temperature 2.2°CHumidity 97%Dewpoint 1.7°CWind NEBarometer 1013.0 hPa & SteadyRain Rate 0.0 mm/hrToday's Rain 0.0 mm

Happy Friday Folks! Bit soupy out there this morning. Looking forward to some sun this Weekend, we've got a pre storm chase pizza making evening tomorrow and then hopefully it's good enough to BBQ on Sunday, although I'm not wild about losing the extra hour in bed, it's a good feeling knowing that Spring is en route and it won't be getting dark at 4pm

Morning all.

 

Went out for a very early morning walk; the first of the year, made possible by the increasing daylight and the drying out countryside.

 

I set off at the time of the dawn chorus, just before sunrise, with a ground frost and light mist. By the time I'd finished, the Sun had cleared most frost and it was all rather pleasant, with Spring growth being evident (although not on a par with how things will develop over the next month) We now have hazy sunshine here now, but it's still chilly.

 

Only two downers. Firstly, on a country lane, I noticed discarded fast food bottles, bags and containers. On approaching the mess, I saw the seemingly inevitable McDonalds packaging - grrrr!! Secondly, on the final approach to home, I saw a very surly guy, for the first time since I've last done that walk, who I call Mr Dog $#!77erer - he doesn't appear to go far enough for me to justify calling him a walker. He's a middle aged guy, who seems to only go far enough for his hound to make a pile or two, away from the vicinity of his house. I speculate that he must hate the increasing daylight, as he's the sort of bloke who looks like he'd appreciate darkness to hide his mutt's use of the pavement. I always make the point of making eye contact with the guy and saying hello to him, as he seems not to appreciate it.

 

Have a good POETS day and enjoy the ( hopefully ) pleasant weekend - even if it is a short one.

He also added that the papyrus my photo was printed on, does discolour with time.

In regards to the 'off topic' stuff, I agree with Ali....let's just say I've been 'converted'.......there is a great community spirit in here, and a good template for the other regional threads to follow. The moderating team do keep tabs on posts, and as BJ mentioned, we will nudge the conversation if needed, but to be fair, the vast majority of posters enjoy the chatty nature of the thread, so in the interest of 'thread harmony' there's no point in rocking a steady boat as such.

 

The best advice we can give is if anyone spots any posts with questionable content, then don't reply to it, hit the report button and let the site team have a look, that's what we're here for......

 

....and so with that, on with the discussion......some beefy showers around today especially for southern and western parts of the region with the chance of hail, T&L, with perhaps a more organised band of rain drifting off the continent overnight, again more especially for western/southern parts og the region

On topic, it's hazy cloud here today, although the east wind still continues to make itself known for the end of school run 'stand' outside of the school. I really want to do my lunch-time power walk around our super-springy running track as it's great weather for it, but work and computer problems are conspiring. Wonder if we'll get any T&L later, hope so, although preferably when I've got home.

 

OK, that was slightly moving away from topic in places. Totally off-topic, so very quick, yes Lassie I have seen the whole series, miss it greatly, the end is fine, although the Los Pollos Hermanos seasons are my fave.

I will only echo what others have said. I think you'll find that this community thread provides a good balance and spread of natural virtual conversation which might attempt to echo/mirror that of a group of weather enthusiasts who perhaps would (and indeed do) meet face to face socially in a region of the country. It would be entirely unrealistic and quite unnatural in such a scenario, as human beings, to not widen our exchanges and discussion beyond simply sitting looking at each other and quoting weather stats wrt humidity, temperature, rain rate etc as if we were robots to one another.

 

I am sure that in terms of the parallel perspective I have just drawn with the outside world, this thread would die a death if all everyone who posted on this thread did was just that. In saying that, I am of course aware there are some members who prefer to keep more private outside personal information to themselves and keep their posting entirely related to weather observations and views related to their back yard.  It is perfectly fine and right to do this on the basis that they are doing what feels right and comfortable for themselves, but crucially this is on the basis that such members as these never usually take a hatchet to anyone else who also wants to post pics of their garden, their animals etc etc and talk about their everyday life in whatever way that is also incorporated within the parameters of weather discussion. Which is afterall, what brings us all here in the first place

 

Amongst the somewhat tiresome and irrelevant smatterings of personal information you say you observe  there is also some solid, useful, and gratefully received information given about the weather outlooks, models and summaries. One can look at john pike's well known regular input for example. The warnings as issued by the METO when required are always relayed quickly onto this thread by the moderator team as well as other members when they are relevant to our region. There are many other examples of course of how contributions are made. Also, many members, being weather enthusiasts as we are, simply like to express and illustrate their enjoyment (or disapproval) of certain weather types - and this also does exactly what it says on the tin in terms of what this thread was set up for.

 

I wouldn't want a Facebook Mk II on here for sure - but I think the community mix and goodwill on here is second to none in my very honest opinion. Also, at the risk of being biased, there is a range of talent in this region available that is second to none. I personally need advice as to how to keep my writing style shorter - can anyone help? Heck, one could find a good vet, nail technician, bookie, lawyer, butler/trouser presser, builder or plumber on here if they wanted to!  Maybe even someone could be found who can tell them what the weather is going to do next 

 

So then, getting back on topic - what of the current weather pattern outlook

 

As suggested in a post the other day, the upcoming period looks set for a continental influence to stay established over us, as the colder more northern european influence of the last day or two is replaced by airstreams that originate from more southern parts of europe.  The fulchrum that dictates how the airstream sets up is how High pressure to our east and north east and low pressure in the south western approaches align and orientate themselves either side of us.

 

Its a fine balance next week in terms of the interaction between the warm tropical continental airstream coming up form our south and south east, and air of an atlantic origin moving around the southern and eastern perimeter of the low pressure in the atlantic to our west and south west. It continues to look out to the middle of next week that we keep sitting far enough east in our region to restrict the bulk of any showery rain bands, orbiting around the low in the atlantic, just to the west of our region. That said, there does appear to be a blip in this at the end of the weekend and Monday as a belt of (perhaps rather sporadic) showery rain heads northwards - with the weather drying up again behind this over our region.

 

From today onwards it gets noticeably warmer though and will feel very pleasant in sunshine

 

This mornings ECM ensemble maps I think illustrate well enough the general agreement for the pattern advertised as I described above, out to the middle of next week.

Very well put Tamara, but I wish you hadn't mentioned butler/trouser presser as Godfrey has been in my service for many years and I would hate to lose him, especially with some warmer weather coming up. He'll be very busy over the next few weeks preparing all of my mustard cords for storage ready for the Autumn.

Afternoon All,

I can only echo all the positive posts regading our little community in this thread, and it's great to see Tamara, Tom and Abruzzi spur back posting more regulary.

As for the weather, after a misty start it's brightend up nicely and feels much warmer than of late.

I'm off work today as it's my daughter's academic review day at school. Got our appointment at 3pm - all I ask is that she has been doing her best so far this year!

Thanks Lady T, great post as usual,I did mention the other day that I thought a 23,000 word essay was imminent from your good self but must admit, didn't expect 46,000 words.

Yes those pics are nice of Antony/Hayley thanks but very sobering to think that of the 2 boys in the group photo, the little fella squatting at the front, my cousins son, died of a brain tumour, 2 years ago, aged 26 and, as you know, Antony has his own serious health problems.

On a much happier note, I've been very fortunate to acquire the services of one of the top cooks on the south coast, for the roast that you mention, indeed Cordon Bleu/ Michelin Gold Star, she is! No pressure then hun! (wink)

Everyone's really looking forward to it but it's a great pity your cat boy cant make it, though.

It's always good to have feedback both positive and negative as it helps the team build a better picture of what people want to see on the forum, as I said we can't please all of the people all of the time but we do try to give all members somewhere they are comfortable posting, hence the existance 0f the regional and less technical threads.

Good afternoon all you good people.  I would like to echo the previous positive comments about the friendly little community we have here, and in particular the thoughts of MK and AJ.

 

There was a flurry of excitement in this otherwise dull suburb earlier this morning with reports of a sink hole appearing in the road about 75yards from my flat.

False alarm, it turned out be nothing more than a collapsed drain cover. I will avoid making the blindingly obvious puns since CK overegged that particular cake a few weeks ago . Anyways, after a misty start and an overcast morning the sun is making a half hearted attempt at breaking through here and the weekend outlook looks quite reasonable so I hope you all enjoy it.
