South East England & East Anglia Regional Weather Discussion 22/02/14

Recommended Posts

Been on the blower to work and seems we still have issues ( I am not looking forward to my early AM start on Monday)

Just called my mum and she has my neice over (only one year old bless) and can hear her in the background "talking", she is such a darling, wish one of my four made it some days...

hows the snow cup going?

Quick question: what's the point of making these new threads once one gets a bit long in the teeth?

If it's to make searching through a thread easier, surely having tens of threads counteracts that?

Baffled

It's not......the board of directors are in the process of re writing the rule book and it looks at this stage as if a winner could be decided on how much salt the local authorities have left in their depot....I've checked with MK council and I understand stocks are at the max of 3,000 tonnes here so unless anyone can beat me on that I've won Posted Image

There is no need to be baffled or sarcastic - all the regional threads are run for approximately 40 pages, if they get too much longer than that it takes ages for the pages to load especially for members who are accessing the site from a mobile device...we always link to the previous thread to make it easy for people to catch up so I really don't see what your problem is !

Been a lovely day today, thought it was meant to be windy?

It's been lovely here too, tonight into tomorrow is when this region will see some patchy light rain and gusty wind ...

...nothing like as bad as in Wales, Ireland and Scotland though !

Nah....don't do that Chilly, just ignore them. The input from all the nice people on here cancels out the sarcastic digs a hundred fold. :)

3 million tonnes left in londonPosted Image

It's the amount left for your borough or local council.....not the whole of London Posted Image

Anyway the grit will be obsolete soon as studies in the US have found that Beet juice, cheese brine and garlic salt all prove to be as effective as road salt at temperatures well below zero and without the environmental impacts or cost of rock salt ....

Wasn't there an earth quake this week in the bristol channel?Posted Image

The Bristol Channel floods, which occurred on 30 January 1607, resulted in the drowning of a large number of people and the destruction of a large amount of farmland and livestock. Recent research has suggested that the cause may have been a tsunami.

The cause of the flood remains disputed, insofar as contemporary explanations blamed God. Subsequent scientific explanations ignored much of the written evidence and blamed bad weather, until recent research suggested a tsunami. Traditionally it had been believed that the floods were caused by a storm surge, a combination of meteorological extremes and a high tide.

Written evidence from the time describes events that were similar to those that unfolded in the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, including the sea receding before the wave arrived, a wave of water that rushed in faster than men could run, sparks coming off the top of the wave, and a crowd of people who stood and watched the wave coming towards them until it was too late to run.

Hi Ali,

Just a quick thanks for reacting quickly to my post, earlier this afternoon. I really felt that the 2 posts I quoted were unacceptable and as this is a family orientated forum, we should be guarding against the use of this sort of language and smutty innuendo.

If some members feel I've overreacted, I'm sorry and I certainly didnt intend to cause an "atmosphere", on the thread, at all.

But in light of certain problems there have been recently on the Regional Thread and on the forum in general, standards and behaviour need to be maintained, for the good of everyone, poster and viewer alike.

Ali, think you have a thankless task trying to keep order on this thread but you always manage do so with a smile and some considerable understanding too.

Regards,

Tom.

solar output

http://www.solarham.net/regions/map.htm

http://www.solarham.net/

although there are spots there solar activity looks to be dropping off now

http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/alerts/warnings_timeline.html

link above shows how activity has been high but slowly dropping off

lets hope we see something like the above happening and we keep the atlantic away from us
