Had the 3rd thunderstorm in 3 days here at about 12 noon. The rain was insanely heavy, but the lightning wasn't overly frequent. The storm seemed to rumble more frequently as it cleared away however. This year is doing much better than the previous few years already!

Now the sun is slowly going down, more convection is happening over the sea which is good thing for me being just a few miles N from the S coast of Devon.

The rain that is heading this way from the Channel doesn't appear to have any lightning showing in it, so maybe just a wet end to the day.

This has to be the slowest movement of an area of rain, ever.

It's slowly petering out too, nothing much to see.

Looks like it is pivoting over SW England William, deviating SW as it gets nearer.

After this morning's rain band passed through Not much here today, some heavy drizzly type rain at times, and we only just missed some intense looking rain to the east, but then again we did get the lighning and heavy rain Monday Night, so can't complain.

Hi Julian, watching the radar a succession of storms passed over north Swansea, with around 25mm at Morriston:

Well, this evening we weren't supposed to get much anyway, later in the night we are.

Yes, looks like the rain band is at a standstill on the SW end.

Nothing more than some light rain showers William, perhaps a few heavy showers tomorrow.

diddly squat again today on the storm front.....moderate rain this afternoon from the decayed multicell complex that drifted up from France.....Disappointing from an IMBY perspective, but at the same time happy for those who got storms today (especially those who have been storm starved in recent summers)

Hi Julian, watching the radar a succession of storms passed over north Swansea, with around 25mm at Morriston:

swansea area rain th 22 may 2014.png

I can only reiterate my comment in that we missed the heaviest of the rain, in that it passed to the east of us as it passed northwestwards, obviously Morriston managed to get hit. I mentioned in my post that we only just missed out on intense rainfall that Morriston had.

This is my quote.

"After this morning's rain band passed through Not much here today, some heavy drizzly type rain at times, and we only just missed some intense looking rain to the east, but then again we did get the lightning and heavy rain Monday Night, so can't complain."

My comment is entirely consistent with what happened here. As the radar shows not that much rain here and I also mentioned that other places got heavy rain.

Hi Julian, I just thought you would be interested! :good:

At work today, I was watching Meto website (off and on), and the white area of rain with interest, as it moved Northeastwards towards us, as it moved ever closer. At one stage it looked as if it was going to hit, by clearly it didn't and those in Morriston got hit. The rainfall difference in a few miles is amazing.

Whether they were lucky or not is a matter for opinion.

Monday Night was a different story, I was at the Wales England u-21game (3-1 a deserved win for England) at the Liberty. In the 2nd half, we got hit, it absolutely belted it down, with thunder and fork lightning to boot. However there were sizeable gaps between the Lightning and the Thunder.

It started tipping down as soon as I got to the pub, this will bump the daily total above 30mm, easy.
