more thunder after a little break - seems to be coming alive again - or maybe it's a new storm - the thunder smell is an amazing smell - not sure I've ever smelt it this bad - does anyone know - is that the nitrogen in the soil being acted upon in some way?

Drizzle has returned. I'm packing my bags, going to be another one of those days I think. Enjoy your storms whoever gets them.

Wish I was at home in the Midlands this afternoon. Sun is out here now but it seems us on the South coast are in a zone of nothingness now. :(

That's very interesting - so a mixture of oil and ozone then cause the smell

And it has ended abruptly. Must have been about 30 strikes. Sun is out now mixing the ingredients for the next storm hopefully. Rinse & Repeat! :D

Lovely and sunny now after a light shower this morning, here. I hope those imports from N France get here.

Blacker than the hole of Calcutta over Wolves was and to the South....

Some hail and heavy rain in that one, but no thunder or lightning. Lots of chances still to come though.

I've given up now, no chance of anything remotely stormy. On the plus side, it is sunny and 16°C

The only hours I do not want thunderstorm today are between midday until 15.00 as I will be doing exam invigilating so unable to enjoy what happens, currently the storms in the Channel look to get here around 13.00!

I left home at midday with the Southern horizon black as sin, I drove home just after 15.00 with the Northern horizon as black as sin and the sun beating down!

In between, reviewing the radar it seems a narrow storm developed over Salisbury Plain ahead of and to the WNW of what was the main storm which brought the lightning and thunder I saw/heard while indoors in Westbury.

At home in Warminster there was merely 1mm of rain! While not far East had considerably more.

Eyes to the Channel again for this evening.

Absolutely shat all here, cold drizzly and quiet.

Looks like Lincs is having all the fun, YET AGAIN.

What a naff place to live weatherwise.

Scrap that, things looking tasty to my south and east. Big crack of thunder just now. Sky signal gone.

Turning out to be pretty crap.

No more thunder/lightning. Moderately heavy rain, almost passed through now too.

Might become potent 30 miles down the road.

Same here. Powerful storms just a few miles to the S with Cardiff and Newport getting battered but soon as they near here they vapourise, no idea why they have died so suddenly. Looks like the summer storm shield has activated early this year.
