another huge gust again

and no this is not finished until the low moves off away to the north east

or it weakens

http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

check pressure link

not moving or weakening at the moment

No it isn't moving. Our barometer has read 974 down to 965, so does that mean this will go on all night as promised?

Just been out for a drive to Saltdean, very windy on the A259 coast road along the cliffs.

Sea spray is making it way up over the cliffs even in Peacehaven.

Ii's now just started raining hard in last 5 minutes, and the winds are really peaking now here with the strongest they been all night.

It's certainly windy here, but not the worst I've known in IMBY. I think St Judes storm was worse than this, but it might not have peaked yet?

St Judes.... Its Weird That the first storm was on that day and the last storm "NOW"  on St Valentines. Posted Image

just noticed a couple of BA planes failed to land at Heathrow and now headed stansted way

Good luck with that. I can just see about 6 queueing up to land on the far SW horizon. Still gusting about 65-70mph here.

Pretty strong gusts here in Romford...never seen lamp-post heads bouncing up and down by at least a foot.

Got mildly fed up with having to chase the small poly greenhouse around the garden, so that's now weighted down with pretty much anything I could find.

Get the funny feeling that we're in a lull at the moment.  With the low not having moved that much or apparently even starting to fill, I think that we'll be getting stronger stuff on the way soon.

As an aside, when I was a mere boy of 5, I managed to sleep through the 87 storm when we lived in Biggin Hill.  Woke up the next morning to find a 60+ft silver birch from our garden over on it's side, sharing about 4 other gardens.  No fear at all back then.

Amazing how age changes you.  Personally, I love extreme weather but now i'm a dad to a lovely 7 month old girl, i'm finding it increasingly worrying the stronger the wind gets.  Should never feel the floor under your feet rumble with gusts of wind :(

Stay safe everyone!

Really heavy shower here now the rain being driven into my window by the wind and lashing hard, it's getting nasty!

The wind went quieter here  so I decided to call it a night but it's roaring again now just a few minutes later, not much chance of sleeping though this really I don't think but I'm going to try anyway - night night, stay safe everyone Posted Image

hi iceni

at present it looks that way

http://www.xcweather.co.uk/GB/observations

the low has shifted slightly north east now

once that gets far enough away the winds will decrease

could take a while though

A woman has died after part of a building collapsed onto a vehicle in Holborn - Met Police.

Winds have gotten up here again.

The time between the really wild gusts seems longer.  Although about 5 minutes ago I thought my bay window was going to be sucked out.  Am hoping we've had the worst of it here.

Yeah, there seems to be a gap between the strong gusts now.. But when they strike, they're still pretty strong!

On the plus side, because there is no chance of sleeping I have got loads of chores done... at this rate I will have spring-cleaned the entire house by morning!

Storms thread descended into farce, Scottish and welsh posters bashing the southerners for crying about a storm because nobody cares when they get one....(sigh) :-(

Childish nonsense....moderators please tidy the site up!

Sadly people are loosing their life this evening and property is being damaged, I thought NW forums were better that that?

Stay safe all x

EDIT - Gottolovethisweather has sorted it out! Good work! :-)

Still extremely gusty here but as others have said there is a larger delay between gusts but they seem stronger? Unfortunately don't have the equipment here to verify
