The wind really started picking up here around 5pm and is increasing by the hour. The Met Office site at Heathrow reported the latest gust speed at 53mph and I think the peak is still some way off yet.

I tried to advise a friend of mine who knows of my weather interest that she should not make a totally uneccessary journey to visit a friend this evening, she wouldn't listen though. I have to wonder at folk some time.

Take care people, I suspect a few of us will be following events closely tonight so it will be interesting to read all the updates.Posted Image

it's hardly what I'd call a storm down here.

What on earth is going on, looking at the pressure charts we should be experiencing MUCH stronger gusts than we have been experiencing thus far along the South Coast this side of the I.O.W

I think this has made landfall much later than was predicted, I'd estimate Maximum Gusts down here will be at about 3am, as opposed to midnight.

Wind is slowly picking up with the occasional gust, Max 52 Mph so far, and that must have been a one off, because I can only just barely hear the wind out there, normally at 52 Gusts, its roaring !!

So I'm totally and utterly confused

3am onwards was always the forecast to peak in the SE

Things are really picking up here now, my Vantage Vue has stopped reporting a light breeze and is now reporting an even stronger gentle breeze! Posted Image

I thought Brighton was suppose to get it in the nuts with this storm?

From what I've heard Brighton gets it in the nuts all the time. It's famous for it.

Very windy here, gusts are roaring between our house and next door, who I think are going to lose their gutter by the way it's flailing in the wind and banging onto the roof. We've had a power cut here at some juncture this evening as well, as all the timers on everything are either flashing or reset, but this must have happened before I got in from work. Just despatched the OH into the garage to get some torches.

On the upside we have a couple of lovely ribeye steaks and a good red for tea, and thankfully the stove is gas :)

Pressure is down to 981mb at the moment....

Not much fun in being young, free and shingle on Brighton beach tonight

Had some crazy wind gusts here, was that a squall line?! Trees were roaring in the wind! Thought the winds were meant to get strong much later.

The BBC/Sky News South-East bias really is showing today. Weeks and weeks of storms across the rest of the country and now the South-East is in the firing line every news channel has a special "weather" program.

Temp at 9.6c here, with pressure at 974 hPa

Wind would be what I'd call a strong breeze, it's blowing a bit.

Nearest weather station states 10.2c, pressure 975hPa

Wind speed 25mph gusting 40mph
