AS, I do not always predict all wind gusts. The light house is not miles away from my projection. It is part of the storm system in the S/SE quadrant. Not trying to justify anything. The Council warnings/predictions come directly from me.  Anyway, time for me to say bye for now and wish you all peace and blessings. Take care everyone Yamkin

OK Y, but you do (my view only) go to the top end of possible and then add some more and then some more on top of that. I just think it's absolutely fine to be enthusiastic but some realism helps as does not going over the top in a way that scares people. Anyway we have different styles so fair enough. I completely agree with your peace and blessings though!

windy but nothing spectacular here.  recorded a couple of 40mph gusts a while ago on a hand held but as I say nothing major.

Your clearly not doing it right mate I'm only in Upminster a few miles from you and we've had well over 60mph here let alone 40 lol

Well it's not calmed down here, in fact I would say it's getting worse - the last few minutes there has been a roar and a whoosh to the wind that I've never heard inland before...ever !

Hi mk. I live further up and across. I can say it's the worst I have heard the wind this winter. Thought only coastal regions would get winds like this but not so far inland.

Blimmin heck! I will be shocked if I wake up to find no damage. The gusts are near constant and the atmosphere is so warm outside. Literally one word describes it......eerie.

Same here. I wasn't expecting windspeeds that high this far inland.

yes, last time that happened at Christmas they got told to make their own way home from Liverpool apparently!

That always happens when I take the car up there anyway.  Hubcap=ashtray I believe.

only going by what it said on the display, no reason for me to doubt it or your readings!  city airport has only recorded maximum of 50 in the last hour

It really is a very strange night. It sounds appalling but when I went out to empty the bin it was, as you say, almost like a summer night... but with a massive howling wind in the background. We are also hearing a lot of planes overhead, presumably trying to land or being diverted from Gatwick. And... just as I thought it was dying down, it gets going again. Enough already - I need to sleep!

Had quite a few brown outs during the last half hour. Shot downstairs with the dregs of the laundry basket just to get it washed - the wind should dry it out in a couple of minutes if it's a clear day.

That's me off to bed for the night.

A 5KM time trial tomorrow morning at 9am, should be fun !!

The storm is not going to get any worse down this way, i'd say it's at it's peak about now IMBY.

Maximum Gust here just west of Brighton ended up at 78.8 Mph.

which is EXACTLY the same as XMas Eve was oddly enough !!

Night all x

Don't want to sound smug but my hedge is fine.

I would love a hedge (notice the filter got me?)
