Yes elevation is the key with these showers this evening. Large wet snowflakes among raindrops but looking up the hill opposite my house I can see heavy wet snow falling. It would be fun if the next batch of showers toward the Bristol Channel coast hold together for an hours time when they get here as the temp is dropping at 2.7c now.

Also Longleat can be 4c colder than Frome sometimes.

I know specific timing is hard to nail down but I'm travelling to work at 5am Saturday morning. Its only a 3 mile journey, but I'm slap bang in a very open valley in arreton the isle of wight. Any input/thoughts/opinions would be very much appreciated.

AFAIK the worst should be over by then, obviously bar all the darn flooding and wind strewn debris.

Snow a the Uni in Bath - just bumped into my HoD as I was gawping at it. He thought I was waiting for a delivery... How do you explain 'just so excited to see snow!'

Nothing to explain. How can people not just gaze in awe, is the question. Beautiful stuff.

I agree with AJ above. 80mph+ easily in places along the south coast at it's peak.

Rains turning to snow here, bodes well for bristol.

I really can't work out where that clump of showers is heading because the one ahead of it dived east south east but this one heading down channel seems slightly on a east north east path. Posted Image

Hi Andy, Is that up Cley Hill? Amazing sometimes i can see that to from Frome and top can be white and bottom of it nothing. Even here in Frome 30 metres makes huge difference.

No not Cley Hill, it was the Elm Hill area  that leads up to Warminster Golf Course, although I can see Cley Hill from the West facing window it had disappeared at that time due to the heavy precip lol.

Heavy sleet when I traveled north up the A46 from the M4 Bath junction tonight in the heavier bursts turning more readily to snow.

As the storm approaches i shall try to give updates on how it is affecting us here, the tide is a big concern along with the winds, quite an exposed area so will be rough for a time but i shall keep the reports coming in.

Storm Ulla  taking shape now out to the southwest

Please stay safe guys

Fresh evening here. Clear at 1.5c dew point -1.7C.

Question might seem daft. Temperatures obviously get lower the higher you get and more countrified you become. Does the same effect happen with dew points?

Mine is 0.3c with a dew point of  -2 I'm not sure I just tend to find it slightly lower.

Big shower heading up the channel again towards somerset and Bristol area could be interesting.

Nice little "clump" heading into West Somerset shortly. Could be interesting around Bridgwater Bay up towards the Mendips soon;

Looks to be that the most intense period will sit over the Solent area tomorrow evening (Probably on par with the 24th Dec storm, which was incredible down here). My neighbours had their fence half replaced last weekend (As it was destroyed during the xmas storm) - the rest of it being finished this weekend apparently. I have a feeling that they'll be starting all over again this weekend...
