crikey winds seem the most powerful this winter here so far. Crazy times.

Jersey Met recently tweeted the highest gusts recorded so far:

Jersey Airport: 64mph

Jersey Harbour: 73mph

Winds expected to peak here in the next 2 hours.

Our high tide passed at 18:30. The predicted forecast height was 10.1m. The recorded height was 11.1m! Roads along our south coast were closed for a time due to "huge" waves breaking over our sea defences. People have been advised to stay indoors ...

WOW it is windy out there, Just been for a drive and they are Sandbagging everywhere on Poole Quay, It looks like it will almost certainly flood tonight.

The wind is so loud it's incredible. without doubt the strongest storm this winter for me.

Not too bad here still. A gust every couple of minutes or longer.. Reading show 39mph wind speed and gusts of 61mph.. Taking it easy then really lol.

Gusts are bad but not horrendous from inside.

Couple trees are going not far from me but they're flimsy so it was only a matter of time. Not in my direction too!

Wind is bad here, not liking it one bit. Please let this be the last bad wind storm, really do with things settling down now.

Can't imagine anyone is still enjoying this!

Certainly cranking up a notch here now, some of the gusts are lasting a good 20 seconds and quite fierce

All travel to and from IOW is now suspended and reports coming in of a wightlink ferry (St Clare Vessel) is now stuck in the Solent and unable to dock at fishbourne car ferry terminal

(you can view ALL live vessel movement with link provided)   http://www.marinetraffic.com/

A section of the cliff has fallen at Sandown, reportedly moving a beach hut.

Feel really bad for all of you getting it in the badly affected areas. Stay safe.

I almost feel like it's missing me slightly?

Or am I still in for it tonight?

That will be less of a case of stuck and more through choice. That sort of vessel will be fine as long as it has sea room. What it does NOT want to do is get anywhere near to land / harbour where it will get pounded and damaged. I have had the misfortune to be on a ferry on a night like this and whilst it is not pleasant it is fine as long as the vessel is under control away from a lee shore.

Lights dimming here in the last couple of minutes.  Seems as though we've been in this wind tunnel for ever.

yep they are dimming here too..i thought it was just me ...but no they are dimming. I suspect there will  be a fair few trees down tonight. There is one in my neighbours garden out back. Big old thing and it is moving like a crazy dancer.. quite far from my house though...although I bet it is a worry for the people in the house next to it..it must be only about a couple of metres from their house. Hope it stays up..

It's truly horrendous here. The gusts seem to go on for ever, never ending. Really not sure what Soton' will look like tomorrow, these winds are epic.

Earliar i was thinking whats all the fuss about nothing more than drizzle and a breeze but since 5pm the wind has been crazy, it did calm down for a bit but the wind is back stronger than before, it makes a horrible noise as it comes across the field before slamming into the house.

Can anyone tell me how to locate my local weather station? A quick google shows one at Bishops Sutton, however I'm on the southern side of the Mendips and its blowing an awful gale so I'm interested to know what the max wind gust is.

Current high gust for Bishop Sutton is 43 mph at 16:50, but I'm pretty certain it's got worse since then.
