Remember these shops and stores?

Recommended Posts

I mentioned a retailer in another thread that we use to see on our high street. The retailer was Rumbelows.

Anyone remember these ones?

Texas was a DIY store right?

They were acquired by Homebase.

I still call Morrison's Safeway's sometimes, even for stores which were never a Safeway in the first place Posted Image

Does anyone remember the Bejam stores - took over by Iceland (the company, not the Country Hemmy Posted Image ) some time in the 1980's?

Wasn't there a supermarket chain called 'Gateways' as well as Safeways?

used to be a bejams in Cheltenham, opened in 1982 I think..or we started going when my folks got a massive fridge/freezer, it looked strange at the time being mainly lined with deep freezers full of frozen space food from the future.

and a gateway supermarket used to be in bishops cleeve.

Oswestry: Woolies, Currys, burtons, ethel austin, focus, jessups, adams, littlewoods, peacocks, even blinkin oxfam. Some larger poundshops have now started poundware, but me, i care not a jot - weve got a good market with wet fish stall, 4 butchers, independent bookshop, clothes shops, record shop, new music shop. Fabrics shop, bead shop, kitchenware, wholefood, furniture, carpet, bespoke tailors and a myriad more, plus great independent restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, great jewellers, plus more nailbars and air salons than you can waggle them acrylics at......

I remember Rumbelows mainly because the League Cup was called the Rumbelows Cup for a year or two about 1991 ish. After Littlewoods and before Coca Cola.

Martin's and John Menzies the newsagents

Habitat (is that still around?)

I can remember a chain called Great British Burger when I was really young and living in South Wales, would have been about 1985.
