Oh dear mother, i dont think shes getting it! Lol

Text from me

Red alert weather warning in place, please dont go out later, ive just filled two flasks, charged phones up but my candles are packed in a box somewhere.

Mum says, ok i know about the weather warning, im in sainsburys at the moment then off to keep fit later, dont worry we have a kerosine heater and candles at our house if you need them.

Me: lol i dont think its a good idea to come out in the middle of a raging storm, drive to yours to pick up a heater and some candles lol !

Mum: ok, i can drop the candles off to you on thursday!

Me: mum, the storm is today!

Oh dear you have to laugh dont ya!!

Interestingly the wind got a little strong before but has now died right down here as it's getting brighter, suggesting we may get away with it compared to other parts, seems to be picking up in coastal areas further north though.

Just a lull mate, take a look at the isobars out west, no chance we're escaping this.

Kudos for met office for putting the warning out early enough for people to react and prepare for what is coming

Mostly trans-pennine areas I would have thought.  Sleety mix to lower levels.

I wouldn't take the graphics as literal as in there's going to be snow in that exact blob, just general. Looked like the usual marginal rules applied to that forecast, high ground etc.

At the end of the day is your life more valuable than your job is the way to look at it job will always be there what's not done today can be done tomorrow will you ?As for emergency services that is what they are there for and paid well to do the same rules don't apply to them I know I'm ex forces and had to do things in conditions no normal person would want toAnyway rant over lol

Totally agree about life being important...but there are lots of businesses that if everyone downed tools and left...there would be serious implications...either financial (big order lost company looses massive contract) or practical (teachers, childminders etc etc)

by all means anyone worried about travelling later ..go home now...but its not as easy as saying anyone who isnt a member of emergency services should go home.

Hmm, I dunno, Met Office warning says down to lower levels for a time too.

I think the strongest winds for us were due to hit after 4pm today.
