Well I can tell you that's rubbish. In the late 80s I used to have a boyfriend in Wandsworth and the Tube went past Hackney Marshes which looked like, err, hectares of marshes in those days. It's where they built the Olympic Village.

Sorry I meant the area here as the nene valley rather than the whole of the SE/EA region

Hi I see your an Upminster man lol, me too :-) I work for the Havering council now on the barrow but I'm off today as I had to use up some annual leave left over from last year I'm glad I did now cause wouldn't have fancied working in that rain & wind earlier, the amount of times my barrow has almost been blown over into the road already since I started my job. I can't begin to imagine how scary 1987 was

Its a small word because I am an Upminster/Cranham girl too. I went to Oglethorpe and Hall Mead Schools. I didn't move to Ockendon till 1993

Having seen comments on Friday's/Saturday's storm, seems that we could be seeing the strongest storm so far for the region (Esp winds wise) before it quietens down a little bit...

So in summary Tamara - yikes! These posts are why I tend to stay in this forum rather than try to decipher anything in the MOD thread between the snow bickering.

Looks like a couple of showers heading in from the channel one of them looks sort of like another squall.

I'm sincerely glad that JP has given up his day job to continue to report here, and to Surrey and Tamara for their regular updates.

I was a bit concerned about JP wandering off, though I prepared a chart just in case, based on a review of all major models, input from the meteo and polar agencies, as well as the space station.

PS. AS, were you in a dogging place., In error, like?

Apologies for the length of this and what follows, but I've copied above the post I made just before the last thread was closed on Monday by way of some progress check/verification and to update about Friday/Saturday's prospects.

By Saturday it continues to look as though we may have seen the last of the most extreme conditions with less threat from damaging winds thereafter - but with the vortex pattern over Canada still having influences there is yet any relief in sight for the taps in the sky being turned off and that represents a big concernPosted Image

So, unfortunately lots still to look out for and the continuing worry of what stays right in front of us rather puts into context the search in vain for (quite unlikely) deep cold weather and snow 10 days and more on the MOD thread

Never apologise, Tamara, but you always explain and you are usually and unerringly correct.

That vortex isn't going anywhere until spring in the USA... once temperatures equalise, we'll see the end of this nighmare.

    Thank you!

at present this low for friday night although all subject to track

    Posted Image

a strong gale force south west flow

as the low heads north east winds will veer west then north west

the southern edge of the low looks to have some very strong winds due to very tight isobars

note high pressure to our west and south east

the low is being really squeezed as it trys to push against the low to our east-south east

jet at time and just before

as you can see the jet really ramps up prior to the storm arriving

thankfully it eases when the storm gets here reducing the sting jet effect ( however these are subject to change)

at present the air is not so unstable so thunderstorm risk has been dropped for now

wind gusts around 70-80 overnight to morning

if the set up amends slightly so will the forecast

either way bad is the only way to describe this at present

Don't want to pick a fight, but the Nene is nowhere near the Thames Barrier or any relief plains associated with it.

Tamara.. Once again, smashing post, expect a lot to change but the consistant model agreement is a worry :( bearing in mind the mac wind here this winter was 67mph this perhaps could be under threat Friday night not good! :(

Possibly the worst storm the region has had to face yet this winter JP? Wind wise anyway?

    hi saint

as that looks at present yes

however still another day for that to amend still

lets hope the jet does what that shows as it will get even more messy

if it keeps its power when the storm arrives

    Hi Jules,

Just had the flashes of lightning here too! I thought it had calmed down a bit. It is not raining at the moment, so it's really weird!
