We got to leave the hospital today at 3pm.  And we then proceeded to have the most horrendous journey home up the A1, until we got to Welwyn.  I drove between 55-60mph as one, there was so much water on the road, and two, I needed to dry carefully for my daughter.  But the water on the road was so scary.  I had lorries passing me in the outside line driving through huge puddles that sprayed over the roof of my car and left me for a few seconds with no vision whatsoever, it was like driving into a swimming pool. I never want to go through that again.

Thankfully it was dryer the further north we got, but you would think vehicles would slow for the conditions on the road.

I can now report that we have a temp of 5.6c.  Wind speed is currently around 20mph but we had a max today of 54mph. :D

A very wild afternoon here, torrential rain and gales, then followed by more torrential rain with the odd flash of lightning. The wind got up for a time this evening too, but has calmed down a bit now I think.

Took a milk bottle out (yes, I know I sound like Jax, but it wasn't the bin) and noticed it's still and quite chilly - just 3.6C here. Odd to still have milk deliveries, but we're in quite a rural area and the milk comes from a local dairy. Even in the (sob!) snow events of the last few years, they never missed a delivery to us. And I have a bizarre liking for bottles of milk rather than plastic containers. Recycling bin is always full of dog food tins and (oops) beer cans plus all sorts of other plastic.

The radar's a bit hard to work out now with small blobs now moving in a more westerly direction. No idea what's coming next. How was the dogging, AS...didn't realise there was a netweather 'meet new people in car parks' thread

Quick update from the top of Reigate Hill....

No-one else from Netweather is here are they?  There are a couple of strange looking folk sitting in their cars typing on their laptops!

And with that, back to the dungeon

Hi JP

So are these looking worse for the region or is it slightly better than the earlier fax?

Cheers.

£10,000.00 to fill up a hole! no wonder this country is in such a state, great gesture by the council to put a fence round it, good to see you get something for your council tax LOL!

Hardly a gesture as it was the Insurance Company that made the offer - big deal!!!

JP is there any sign that these storms maybe coming to an end. I don't think I have ever experienced anything quite like this in my years of nearly 39 years on this isle. (Never been anywhere else) lol. I know this extreme and apparently the count at end of jan was 31 low pressure systems over the uk since 1st December. So make that 34 or 35 now !!! That is more intense than most of the hurricane seasons!!!!!
