ugh, I'm just hoping that wave you showed for tomorrow doesn't happen. Enough rain about even without it.

note the kink in the isobars over the south east

this will likely be more precipitation

Hi John - am I to presume that the kink is a shortwave feature running through the longwave trough?

Still laughing at sky, reporter is wading in water, discovers water is covering obstacle, nearly falls flat on her face in water live on tv.

hi chris

thats how i see it

these short range charts seem to be better at picking these features up

like the fax charts with troughs

anyway lets see what the fax shows soon

Squall line wasn't too bad here - it had weakened greatly from earlier, I think.

its not the rain that concerned me, its the huge trees dropping their branches. I don't think her doggies would've liked to have one of those on their noodles

well take things opportunities as they come

yes he had a good shampooing and then rinsed off in the rain. may not be the best bath ever but least he's clean now :D

And then the water will rise up stream IDIOTS¬

well. its up to stop the incoming tide, so not sure they are idiots. i think the barrier will prevent more flooding upstream then if it was not there :)

Indeed, they stop the tide coming in, otherwise it would push the water back up the river, making the flooding worse. They only close it until the tide the other side is lower than the river, then re-open it.

looks like

a slight north west flow

so winds very light thankfully

this shows the rain-sleet-snow even coming through earlier and clearing by lunch

however we have a trough to our west there

this will likely give us some lightish showers in the afternoon but i would expect that to weaken as it heads towards us

temps cold around 5-6 degrees

overall a much better day and we may even see some sun Posted ImagePosted Image

i did my HNC Diploma with a guy who worked on the barrier and was given a very rare tour of it. its nothing to do with flooding downstream when its up; theres loads of relief plains: it goes up to help prevent flooding upstream. thats why its where it is. :D

No, it;s the stop the incoming tide flooding London... It's been extremely effective in stopping 1/3 of London going under water before!!

OH WOW - wind's come back again from nowhere — this must be that squall line that was due to hit us.

Gone very dark and I'd estimate wind speed at around 45–50 knots. Gusts — a lot more. Definitely more than when I went for the walk earlier. Newer trees or shrubs in the garden bent double and huge rain.

OOI when was this? I'd bet those 'relief plains' have all been built on by now.

tomorrow night

Posted Image

a breezy west-south west flow

rainfall

Posted Image

Posted Image

it should stay mainly dry

there is a chance of some low drizzly cloud to the far south that could persist leading to mist and fog patches

temps

Posted Image

Posted Image

a frost is likely most areas

however where you are exposed to the breeze you should just about avoid it

temps will increase friday morning when the slightly warmer air arrives

more to follow

Thankfully in this area there has been no significant building on flood plains in long recent times, think this has been a salvation for the area (not so futher up though)

Meh,was that it? :D

From the various locations i was in,the weather was bad enough to keep me sharp, but not dangerous. The pain was the gusts tho, rain you can see....wind,no idea where/when it`s coming. Though i`d sell my kidney for some dry weather!

Well I can tell you that's rubbish. In the late 80s I used to have a boyfriend in Wandsworth and the Tube went past Hackney Marshes which looked like, err, hectares of marshes in those days. It's where they built the Olympic Village.
