Hmmmm! I'm going to stick me neck out and say those bright spots on the radar will die before they reach EA. That's just a wild guess. :O

Does anyone live near Cranleigh, Surrey? I'm off to the Top Gear studios tomorrow and I wondered whether anyone knew if the area was flooded?

All I know is that during the late 60s my brother was at Cranleigh School there and EVERY time there was flooding in the area, he either couldn't get home on an exeat or couldn't get back to school if he'd been at home on one.

Spoke to an old West Sussex neighbour yesterday afternoon and she says there are pockets of flooding all around - her son is the CEO of a large construction company in Chichester and said apart from emergency repairs etc., work is at a standstill as they either can't get to places or the weather precludes building work.

Afternoon all

What a difference in the weather in just 12 hours can be, around 03:00 everything was white and frosty, by 06:00 it had all gone and the first of the rain arrived, light at first, then by 08:00 it got heavier and heavier until midday ish, and then sunny spells and blue skies with some cloud, not quite as windy as I expected but feeling cool in that stiff breeze, nice in the sun though if you can avoid that breeze thought.

Beautiful end to the afternoon here, and looks like no tube strike tomorrow, which means I won't have to walk in the storm. Hurrah.

Instead all the trains can break . Woo!

A 15-metre deep sinkhole has closed the M2, the Highways Agency has confirmed.

Engineers are conducting emergency repair work in the area near Sittingbourne in Kent but junctions 5 and 6 remain closed in both directions.

The Highways Agency said: "Road users are advised that the M2 is currently closed in both directions near Sittingbourne in Kent for urgent safety investigations and repairs after a large hole opened up in the central reservation.

"There are currently delays of 15 minutes eastbound and 30 minutes westbound in the area. Traffic heading to and from Dover is advised to use the M20.

"The Highways Agency and its contractors are working hard to investigate the hole and the necessary repairs and will reopen lanes as soon as it is safe to do so."

A signed diversion is now in place via the A249, the M20, the A20, the A252 and the A251.

It is unclear whether the hole, which is 2x5 metres across, is related to the floods.

The M2 is one of the major routes from London through Kent.

Fifteen metres is the size of four double-decker buses.

Just got home, wondered why the matrix boards were saying the M2 was shut!

The conditions were really bad this morning on my journey to Herne Bay and back, really was a hell of a lot of surface water and the gusts were pretty naughty in places,i`d say the worst condititons for me this winter (well, extended autumn). Posted Image

Yeah, hopefully it's informative enough.

It is, I like your site also:)

And to echo other posters, it is great to drive home when it is light, but not just that, it was bright sunshine and blue sky. Definitely gets me thinking of spring, and yet, with no snow flakes yet having fallen.... I really want a huge Thames StreamerPosted Image

As part of their tasking to aid local authorities with the flooding across the area, the Taunton-based Marines were asked to shift the 42 pipes, each weighing 3.5 tonnes, away from North Moor pumping station to Salt Moor.

Using a flat bed support vehicle and military lorry from Commando Logistics Regiment, based at RMB Chivenor in North Devon, the eight Marines used brute strength to load the piping on and off.

Lieutenant Brendon Ford of 40 Commando said: “The military vehicle was the only one that could get through to the pumping station to collect the pipes.

“Then it was a case of using a bit of muscle to get them onto the vehicle.â€

As well as the piping, the Marines have been tasked to fill HESCO bastions – used in military fortification in Afghanistan – with sand to ensure a flood barrier in the village of Aller.

The Marines are part of a contingent of military personnel who are continuing to provide support to people in Somerset as part of a cross-Government and multi-agency relief effort.

OMG :( Mum just called got a letter from the council saying they are sending in a pallet of sand bags for each house down my road in preparation for rising water... MY HOUSE Posted Image Posted Image

Sorry to hear that, hope your not flooded. Amazed at the speed of rising water levels in Pooley Green and Egham today, lots of evacuations and many more areas affected. Water coming up through drains in parts of Staines too.

Not as much grief as it would have been if the sink hole had suddenly appeared in the carriageway - thankfully it was the central reservation or there would have been carnage ...very concerning though if this is the kind of thing that could happen now - as if the floods themselves were not enough to deal with !

That will be the deep sink hole that has opened up slap bang in the middle of it.

Just nipped out and feeling a lot colder out again, clear and dry for now though here.
