The chances of a record low number of frost days…

Recommended Posts

Hi

It’s no surprise that this Winter of 2013/14 has been cyclonic, very wet and very mild. At the moment its on track to become the 10th mildest winter [DJF] in the monthly CET series back to 1772. But rather more surprisingly, to me at least, is that it could be heading to become the year with the lowest number of air frosts (between October and May) since 1878.

I've put some graphs and tables together to illustrate the point:

(1) Accumulated daily mean CET - winters [DJF] 1772-2014
(2) Cumulative number of frost days daily minimum CET 1878-2014
(3) Table of Most/Least annual frost days (Oct 1 - May 31)
