Apologies if tone wasn't quite bang on, your post made it sound like you expected a rash of showers to be over us currently and because there wasn't...that was that.

No apologies needed.

Nah it's alright, just an observation of the radar really rather than expectations. Expectations are kind of out of the window today after this morning!

Still been a good day, and still think we'll see a further dusting over night. Maybe...just maybe a little something more if we get lucky.

Edit: Although after all that...showers are popping to the west of us in Wales again!

Downgrade on BBC weather got my area down for light snow, when earlier it had heavy snow between 2am to 4am, expecting a light dusting before rain sweeps in.

yeah wintry mix predicted, but remember its Atlantic air, this mornings snow at low levels, I think the max possible off Atlantic air

think also snow off Atlantic air is only possible in Feb at low levels, Tues 5th Feb same last year

Our dew point too high for snow here, I think it will be all rain.

This morning's snow cover lasted all day here and has now frozen. A few snow showers in the past hour or so have filled in any gaps.

Area of precip now in the southern Irish Sea looks a bit more organised? Pushing into Wales initially, also report of thunder in the far SW associated with this band.

Thunderstorm and snow here earlier..... Very unstable air mass....

Very unstable air mass indeed! Just had thunder, lightning, hail, rain, sleet and snow here in Falmouth! So being away from the Midlands wasnt so bad after all! Some lightning strikes were very close mind! Very deep, booming thunder! What a winter!

Been out on a date today - so only just got back... but what a random day for the weather!

I looked outside at 10:00am and it was lightly raining, let the dog out for a tinkle and when she came back in the light rain turned heavier for about 5 minutes, then about 10:30am it switched to hail (that started really bucketing it down). After about 5-10 minutes of this, it started going lighter, so I thought excellent time to leave and walk down the town to the cashpoint. The second I leave the house, boom! The hail turns to light snow... then with every passing minute it got heavier and heavier - the flakes grew in size too (not going OTT here, but some of the flakes were HUGE! Easily 3-4cm+). At one point it was basically impossible to walk... the snow was coming down in vast quantities and also there were strong winds - so the snow was pretty much travelling horizontally and smashing you in the face (so you couldn't see). Suffice to say, with the slush from the hail and blizzard conditions earlier, I was soaked! Never in my life have I wanted to get into a (warm) pub as quick as I did today.

It looks good for the southern midlands at the moment, not the north. Unless that PPN fills on it's northern side, I can't see much of it going north than Birmingham. Somewhere like Northampton or Gloucestershire could be the peak of tonight's snow. We probably have another 8-9 hours of snow potential before it turns to rain. Tommorrow night could see a wintry sprinkling also.

Seems to be taking a slight NE track? moving quite smartly as well.

NE is the correct track, as forecast, yes. Posted Image

If it takes a more NE track, then places like Staffordshire and Stoke etc could see the best of it. Either way, I expect to see falling snow in Birmingham City centre by around 2.30am, if not a little sooner. Some places could end up with a nice 4-5CM out of this, with 7-10 on the moorlands I would think.

I used to live near Atherstone (Baddesley Ensor) and witnessed some great snow there in the past. As for snow heading this way, dp is 1.2 so marginal.

Lickey hills or Highlander pub, Northfield possibly but City Centre of Birmingham - unlikely to be any worthwhile accumulations.

You think it will hit Northants? That would be a pleasant suprise and worth staying up a little while longer for. As calm as calm can be here at the moment and has been for much of the day.

I think we may scrape a couple of cm around here on relatively high ground of the lickey hills, increasing precipitation as it moves across land..  much like it did today, will be staying up i reckon

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
