Bit confused now, are we expecting high winds this evening or not?

I think some of us already have them! Blowing a gale here now!

Had to take a detour to work Friday morning, didn't even get as far as Finchingfield (before and after photos attached), I think I may have struggled after the bridge if I had!

I was thinking of heading there this morning, for a photo. Unfortunately too much drink yesterday afternoon made me lazy and disinclined earlier.

I think it's just over 30 miles from home. I might go there tomorrow at first light, but won't bother if the flooding has moved downstream.

That might be the best idea, I only got within about a mile of Finchingfield itself and dunmow is pretty badly flooded as well if your coming in from the A120 side, thankfully there are about 4 ways out of Thaxted where I work, so managed to find a relatively dry route out last night....Monday May be a different matter altogether!Beer stopped play eh? Good work!! 😀👠Edited by scotteboi

Blowing a hooley out there now and it's started spitting with rain. Had to go out to accompany the man from Anglian Water who'd come to unblock the drain. What a time to come. :O

There I was standing there with my 'comfort' shawl flapping about in the wind.....it was like Wuthering Heights. :D

I'm still shaking my head in disbelief... hope the police throw the book at him and hope no one was hurt as that branch has been hanging over the lane for 2 hours.

Hopefully no one got hurt and the police will call out the special branch to deal with him !

Good evening everyone,

I have had a break from posting for about a week and still the rain appears to want to fall from the sky, although today has not been too bad apart from the wind now increasing.

I loved the posting from Tamara about last years snow in March, as that bought back memories of when my father was in hospital for a serious operation and had his bed on the fifth floor of Bedford hospital.  It was so cold up there due to the wind we had to take him extra blankets and cover the window early in the evenings whilst watching the snow float past the window.

Well back to the current weather and it's 7.4c with a very gusty wind although I am sure it will move up a few notches later this evening.  I just hope we have a break from the rain as I notice the River Ouse from the EA web site has filled up the wetlands designed for flooding, therefore anymore rain will go straight in to the river.  a lot of work has been done since the Easter floods of 98, however with the increased building of homes on the fields used for flood near the river I can see one day a major flooding event happening in Bedford, St Neots and Huntingdon.

Chris

Are you sure it was the weather he was talking about Posted Image

Looks like this rough weather is here to stay right through next week, another train of storms to come and a few might see some slushy snow thrown into the mix from Monday night onwards and then possibly the risk of a much more violent wind storm Friday....

You're such a wit Posted Image  But what sort of person gives false information to the police on a night like tonight?

But al least I managed to head off a Defender LandRover with about 5 little kids in the back on their way back from a party. So their Mum turned around and weren't at risk.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
