the rain in Carlisle comment was due to a poster there who spammed thread after thread for months in the winter with the question "will it snow in Carlisle" untill everyone got fed up with it.

Was Crazy Luton Snowfan there as well?

Hee hee, evening JJ ,

I suspect, being relative weather newbies,  we might not necessarily understand  some of these oldies  "stalwarts" jokes/references.

Regards to SM. Glad your boiler is now working.

Weather-wise, PP and Piggies are all good here too thanks - wednesday might be another matter hence biting my nails until JP feels able to guide us.

i am not convinced on low track so going to wait for tomorrow now

Hi JP, got to go to East Grinstead on Wednesday, hoping to go by car rather than by boat and on a separate note Andy Murray is British again tonight!

hi bjay

just watched the tennis as well

haha

at present i actually think the rain will be here

but not overly bad

the wind is the tricky one but if the jet stays as it is

i reckon 50 mph will be the norm

however a slight shift south of that low and things will be different

hence holding off until tomorrow

He was crazy, he married off his dog and had a wedding ceremony for it.

Anyway, I thought of you yesterday as they had a cookery show on tv I was watching and they made foccaccia bread, and the bloke who made it came from Abruzzi, they showed the village and told some interesting facts about it.It seemed lovely.

Who had to go and mention grebes? (goes to rock in the corner for a bit)

As far as I can remember Mild Carlisle/River Eden (will it snow in Carlisle?) was a different bunch of wind-up merchants to those who perpetrated the Farkin/Allen clan thing.

I can see seven stars. That makes it the clearest night so far this winter. Bah.

Hi JennyJane, thanks.  Sadly I've never been there, I picked my forum name because I love mountains and have done a very limited amount of winter climbing many years back.  the Abruzzi Spur is the main route at the start of the climb of K2 one of the hardest and most dangerous mountains in the world.  I've never been there either (honestly, I do get out sometimes!) I just loved the words, and anyway choosing the forum name 'small slope in Surrey' might have made me sound a bit crap, albeit it would be more accurate!

Hope all ok

Hi JennyJane, thanks.  Sadly I've never been there,

It really looked like an untouched by time village and the bloke who was talking about it said that before homes had real ovens, they would all take their unbaked bread to a main bakery and cook it there, then this guy had to carry it home balanced on his head on a tray and it was burning hot,he was talking of a time about sixty or seventy years ago.

Talking about bakers' ovens, I made pommes boulangere the other day and I was curious why they were called that so did a bit of research.  Apparently it's because the French bakers once they had extinguished the heat from their massive bread ovens realised they would keep hot, then warm, for about 4 or 5 hours so they layered sliced potatoes with sliced onion, perhaps some garlic, salt and pepper, plenty of fresh thyme, and covered the lot in chicken stock and put it in their boulangere's oven and left it to initially bubble then soften and merge until, not exactly hey presto, but 5 hours later, golden and shining pommes boulangere.  You could put a shoulder of lamb, rosemary and garlic studded, on top of the spuds, cover in foil, cook on 130c for 5 hours and you have the perfect winter/autumn meal that cooks itself..  In the oven at 9am, go for a walk, possibly a pint in the local, back at 2, out of the oven to rest for 20 minutes, red wine, melted lamb perfection.  Cavolo Nero would go brilliantly with this, left over lamb would go sticky ready to be picked off with fingers.

Edit:  Especially good when there is weather about (attempt to avoid deletion)

That jet almost looks like it could send the low into the channel, doubt that will happen though as I'm sure the modles would have picked up on that signal by now.
